Do laptop specs matter at all if just using it to access my desktop via remote desktop?

I'm thinking to buy a really cheap old laptop on ebay just so I can access my desktop (which is in my living room) while sitting on my bed. So it would only really be acting as a screen the hardware wouldnt matter would it?

Any cheaper solutions welcome. I just want to be able to lie on my bed while accessing my comp.

your better off getting a tablet and remote desktop login to it. old laptops have low battery life, outdated bios for the sound card that you will be blasting your p0rn through e.t.c

pick up a cheap tablet for like $100

Obviously the specs matter. The remote is just letting you control your computer from a remote location. To be able to still do things quickly, you're going to need a quicker computer.

No it doesn't matter, only the internet speed line matters, so you don't "lag" while using your desktop through remote control. The resource intensive applications will be run on the desktop ( I assume), the laptop will just be used to establish a connection between the computers. Any cheap laptop will do that.

As I thought. Poster #3 talking out their ass :D

The only thing that will matter is the network card I guess and any computer made in last 10 years should be ok I would have thought.

A tablet is unsuitable since I want proper control of the desktop for coding and browsing multiple tabs. Another weak answer.

I would say any laptop that can stream video without much of a hassle will do the job. Teamviewer is what probably you would be looking for once you get the hardware up and running, RDP will do the job as well, but honestly Teamviewer works best for me.

Yes I also recommend TeamViewer, that's what I use - it's free and simple to use. It's a normal program, so any machine can execute it, old or new.

I dont see the point of using 3rd party apps when rdp does the job just fine.
