So i'm new to whole webmasters/blogging thing. I run a few niche websites which make me amazing money. I have enough money to invest into more hosting now and more websites. I'm thinking about starting a blog/forum.

So i'm wondering... is a niche really necessary? For example.. Look at hackforums.net the largest mybb forum.

You'd think they're a hacking forum, but the most popular section is the lounge. Also they go into graphics, wemaster, gaming and a ton of other shit that's not hack related.

So is a niche really all that necessary?

I was thinking about starting a blog and just having it tabled as a general blog.

I would have categories, for example "Hacking" "Internet Marketing"

And when I make a post related to money making i'd put into "Internet Marketing" or when I make a post related to hacking i'd obviously put into the hacking section.

Do you think this is a good idea?

From what I can tell, they normally start off as a niche. Later, as their audience increases, they can start to go into broader topics. If you start off as a general site, it is harder to capture an audience.
