    Hi guys,

I am in a bit of uncomfortable situation, I live in UK but as an immigrant,
by law I am not allowed to own a business, only work for a company.

Do I need to register a company to have a long term website OR
Do I need to register a company to do affiliate marketing or PPC?

Are you a migrant, immigrant or an illegal immigrant ?

Interested which law you refer to though.

Do you have a UK bank account ?

I am a legal immigrant on tier 2,

Yes I work as a software developer and have a bank account.

I am just reading Tier 2 policy guidance document (Tier 2 is the name of visa which gives me the right to work here)
    The 2 rules state:
215.You cannot take employment, except: working for the sponsor in the job recorded on your Certificate of Sponsorship; and supplementary employment; and voluntary work; ....

    Supplementary employment:

You do not need to inform us of any supplementary employment, as long as it is:  in either a job which is included on the Shortage Occupation List in Appendix K of the Immigration Rules, or a job in the same profession, and at the same professional level, as the work for which your Certificate of Sponsorship was assigned; and  no more than 20 hours per week; and  outside of the normal working hours for which your Certificate of Sponsorship was assigned .

(Basically: if you do any additional work(20p/w hours max) it can only be for your company, or some other job which has shortage of workers, as far as I understood)

There is no law stopping you starting a company, **but** you cannot work for that company. So you own it (shareholder) and appoint people (directors) to run it.

I plan on starting one site with affiliate, than scale to drop shipping. I understand that to be affiliate for amazon you must provide company id and with drop shipping you also must have a company.
I want to experiment with different niches and websites...

I don't know about the UK, but I know in the US there is a default entity called a "Sole Proprietor" where the business and the person are 1 in the same. So, taxes and everything are filed with the person's tax ID number. There are no real registrations or anything that need to take place. I ran my business as a sole proprietor for years. The biggest drawback is there is no legal protection in the event of a lawsuit.

Perhaps there is something similar in the UK?

(Sorry, I just read your second post. I don't think what I mentioned would work for you.) :-/

    Exactly the same.

    No need for a company.

Be very careful with what you're planning to do as you will ultimately be breaching your visa rules. If money comes into your bank account in the UK, then HMRC will be able to see it, question it and report it to other government authorities.

Thanks for the heads up, I have thought of setting up a paypal linked to my countries bank account back in Russia. But doesn`t amazon require company id or something? Plus they don`t opperate in my country as far as I know. Do I not need a company to set up dropshipping? Many thanks for all of your responses so far btw.

    This ^^.

You may be able to use Payoneer possibly, but you're now looking away from black hat marketing / seo and more into borderline illegal activities here my friend.

Worst case scenario is you get found out, lose your right to work, and you're on the next plane back to Moscow.

I'll bow out of this thread now, good luck whatever you do.

    Hey,

    Also in the UK.
I have had personal experience with your situation.
There is no law preventing you from starting a blog but as soon as you start earning any quid, you need to register as self-employed. The threshold to register is 2500 pounds. You put them on self-assessment in your tax bill. You can not register a business with tier-2, you need tier-1 to do that. But, you can register in your country and use those bank accounts to receive money. Give a call to HMRC and ask them about it.

    Good Luck.
