Do I need to index my backlinks?

I think if you are commenting on blogs, it would depend entirely on whether the blog owner has approved and published your comment. Revisiting the same blog article, will show your last comment, as that is the feature on most WP blogs - but it does not mean that the comment is published on that site - possibly that is why none of these links were recorded on your link watch app.
Perhaps if the blog owners do publish your comments, and if the links are do follow, then they should be recorded as a link linking to your site.
