    Is it a common practice to cloak Clickbank affiliate links? I am not really worried about the customer seeing the hoplink in the URL address bar but I am worried about the possibility of commission hacking.

    Am I just being paranoid or does a lot of hoplink hacking take place. Can you please suggest any free cloaking tools that I can use to safeguard my clickbank hoplinks please?

    I have never came across any affiliate hoplink hacking. Its just that the link looks pretty ugly and thats why people try to change it.

    To change your link make a php file in notepad and put this in:

    <?php
    header('Location: yourafflinkhere ');
    ?>

    save this as something like thenameoftheproduct

    upload it to your server, then refer to it

    as yourwebsite/thenameoftheproduct.php

    This cloaks it so it looks all nice now, and it will ease your mind as to people hacking your links.

    If you need more help with this, just google "cloaking affiliate link" or something like that, until you see this code and a more detailed explanation.

    Its very easy, about 7 steps in total, and does what you want.

    If your going to take all the time to promote Clickbank products then don't be lazy and not cloak your hoplinks. There is a real tendency for people not to buy when they see that hoplink for whatever reason so it behooves you to cloak them. You'll see better results if you do.

    I agree with philionaire. Just do it for the sole reason those links look gross.

    Thanks for the tip. I didn't cloak it before because I have a decent name that doesn't sound like I am collecting commissions but I never realized that the ugly link with numbers was showing at the bottom of the browser. I have changed it to a nice sounding name now.

    I really appreciate the tip. I have given you a rep also :)

    Do you guys think a normal HTML or PHP header redirect as shown above will suffice? Or do we need to use something like Prosper 202 to blank the referrer? By the way, when using prosper you blank the referrer while with the method shown above you only hide the hoplink. Will CB bitch about blank referrers?

    I'm not really understanding how you guys can consider this "cloaking." Your links are clearly visible and accessible in some form or fashion. This is just redirecting. Yeah, you're diverting some attention away from your link by not having it posted all over the net, but what you are posting all over the net readily redirects to your URL. Cloaking is tunneling data back & forth, never allowing your link to be visible. Of course this means all lead data will originate from the host IP serving up the PHP, but it's actually cloaking. Perhaps you guys might consider referrer evaluation of some sort?

    Just whipping this out w/o testing but...

    Why not make some disposable redirects or domains that redirect to another domain w/ a PHP script. The script can read from a list of your redirects/domains pointing to the final domain.

    Code:
    <?php
         if ($_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"] == 'myredirect.com') {
    ?>
              <iframe src="http://www.yourofferurl"></iframe>
    <?php
         } else {
              header ('Location: somerandomblog.com');
         }
    ?>
    With this, if they aren't coming from your redirects, it won't display your offer.

    there's no need to cloak the referrer on hoplinks, unless you were doing something blackhat with them, which is very difficult with cb products since cb doesn't really care about promotion methods.

    the php header redirect is just used to cloak the mouseover text, so that it says your domain rather than xxx.hop.clickbank.net.

    also in case anyone's wondering, there's no way to completely hide your affiliate id, since it always shows up at the bottom of the order form

    The fact is that someone might steal your commission if you are promoting a make money product or the IM niche. Most of the people you target with that know about Clickbank. Sell something that targets regular folks and you won't have to worry about it as much if at all.
