OK so I want to place a content locker on some sites of mine, but I want the content lockers to pop up blocking the site right when the website loads. Back a couple years ago I did this with some Leadbolt lockers and noticed my sites got removed from Google or rankings would just drop totally. Is it possible to have a content locker on a website (a locker the pops up on load) and it still rank for keywords on Google?

    Thanks

Your bounce rate will affect rankings.

Visitors will see content locker and hit the back button, which in theory will tell google your website is not providing what they are looking for.

+1 with hnmfvnxe. Use this on non-adsense sites. Like warez, mp3 download etc. Also you can activate content lock when user clicks download, it could be a better idea.

Using content locker on inner pages or as @meann said, Using at the time of clicking the download link will help. In my experience, it did affects the rankings

Yeah I don't want to use it on inner pages or on click as if that were the case I would just use a link locker, it's much easier to use.

So if I have a content locker over top the entire site I probably can't rank it?

I found a new locker network that I want to test out, so if I set the locker to pop on click then I shouldn't see any downgrade in Google rankings for the site?

The simple & straight answer is yes, they bother your visitors and your visitors bother your bounce rate and hence your bounce rate bother your SE rankings.

Indeed agreed with the above comment, Consider yourself a visitor and then think. I am not sure whether it would effect your ranking but surely would hurt your visits.

I dont think it will affect your ranking since visitor if you set up content locker on click. Visitor wont spend more than 20 seconds on your page , he just click what he want and say bye!

As gulsinn has said, it will effect your bounce rate and that could hurt your ranking. Just my 2 cents

Yes of course, you will see drop on your bounce rate. If your main traffic is from search engines, don't use content locking for that.

So the reason why putting a content locker over top your entire site has you drop in rankings is really because of the bounce rate, and less to do with Google finding locker related code on your site and de -ranking you? So I'm assuming if you put a delay on the content locker pop of say 1-3 seconds that really wouldn't help that much?

ok well if I make the content locker on click then I should see my rankings remain the same then?

I have done a test on a niche blog of mine that was already ranked, so far the locker has been on for about 3 days now with no movement, how long should I wait with the locker on before knowing if it will affect movement?
