It may just be a simple communication problem - but chances are she is messing with you.
If you keep pushing on the product price the shipping will go up. And yes, sometimes "Carmen" / "Viola" / "Janette" just doesn't have an idea about the shipping cost and after she gives you a quote her boss gives her another quote.

How did you find this particular supplier? Is he/she reliable?

I have read a lot of horror stories from people importing goods from China.

e.g. One guy ordered steel fittings, but when he got the shipment, it was steel scrap. :D.

Please do all due diligence before you send any payment.

you should research prices yourself and ask your suppliers to ship through the mode that you want them to

Yes they do, sometimes (depending on the seller/person). You just have to do the research first and have a good idea about shipping cost to your country etc. Else it's a walk in the park for them, as they make their own prices for new buyers. I had a similar issue when I first started to buy stuff at Alibaba, lesson learned

tell me the weight and size of what you want shipped as well as the destination country, and I'll tell you the prices I have (I'm in Shanghai) with Fedex or DHL, then you can compare (you can PM or in the thread depending on your privacy preference)

Maybe you need to learn to do business with Asia - I have never had a problem - I find them to be reliable and honest. It is just in knowing how to do business with them.

You have to be really firm, and remember what they quoted you. I have never, ever in my life had more difficult negotiations than when I deal with a Chinese business.
