I was thinking of starting a new hobby... fishing, as in the local lochs here in scotland there are meant to be 25lb pike fish that give a nasty bite, just wondered if any one here does fishing??an could advice on the best sort of gear i would need, as ive never been before.

Been once, never again. SEO feel's just like fishing.

So tedious and boring...... but when you catch a fish or hit that number 1 spot, it feels like you've won the lottery.

I go fishing all the time. It depends what you are trying to do. You can use bobbers or weights. Take the weight or bobber up about 18 inches from the bait. You also need the obvious hooks, pole, and line...Oh yeah, and beer. Lots of beer.

    I get bored. Plan:
Do 3 hours of IM and go to the local fish market and buy a fish :).

It is, for sure. Pike isn't good for eating though, and watch out...they will bite the crap out of you.

I love fishing - but the majority of what I do is fly fishing. You can fly fish for pike, but you are likely thinking about using spoons and heavier lures in the lochs.

Do you have a tackle dealer near you? If you go in and tell them what you want to do, they should be able to easily advise you as to the best suited rods and tackle that you will need.

If you'll be regularly catching 25 lb. pike, a heavier rod - probably about 8' and rated to cast heavier lures will be in order. You'll of course need a reel to hold your line too.

When fishing for pike, it will be important to have a leader made of steel as pike have very sharp teeth which can easily shred monofilament line.

Best advice again, is to go to a nearby tackle shop if there is one. What part of Scotland are you in? There are likely some good websites on pike fishing in your area too, that you might be able to glean some information from.

I have been a fly fisherman since I was 14 years old.
I tie my own flies too. It's much more than a sport.
    It is an art as well . . . Very relaxing . . . I enjoy it :)

I lost all my fishing gear while moving a few years ago so I haven't been fishing in awhile , And plus I never caught a fish so I basically gave up on fishing completely.

I have been into fishing since I was 5. Started out bit bashing at a local pond. Then moved onto Carp fishing at the age of 10. Every school holiday was spent on the edge of a lake or pond.

Fishing is one of the most relaxing hobbies ever, coupled with the rush you get when your playing a big fish, makes it one of the best ways to spend a day.

I have been on many fishing holidays through the years, trying out new methods and different species. You should certainly give it a shot :)

I'd rather get nailed by a bus than go fishing.

Not a regular fisher, but I love it. In most cases it is more about spending time in nature / with friends rather than actually catching the fish. One of the best fishing experiences I had was on a small boat near the Bahamas where a friend and I got pretty drunk drinking Bahamian rum and fishing. It helped that we got quite a few and my friend was tussling with a small shark, but either way it's a good deal of fun.

I'd definitely recommend it. Best of all, you can eat what you catch to cut your losses for the rod, bait, etc.

If you go fishing with a shotgun & TNT it makes it a whole lot funner............,

On another note I really like vintage boats; Cris Craft, Garwood, Mercury, Higgins, Thompson, Century.http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_G50NIxnjRO8/SGzTwJO1CzI/AAAAAAAABQc/A0LvwT3ytis/s400/Chris%2BCraft%2Bbarrel%2BBack%2Blow2.jpg

I fish every weekend. If you want to empty your mind, if you want to relax go fishing. After fishing for a half day and no big fish yet, i go spearfishing.
