Long story short, I have the opportunity to get a DMOZ listing and Yahoo directory listing for my finance site for $700. I'm hearing lots of mixed information about the value of these links in 2013 (and 2014 soon) and I want to know if these listings are worth the price I'm being quoted.

Not looking to discuss how I'm getting the listings, although I'm sure there are many ways, I just want to know if they still hold enough SEO power for a large finance blog to justify buying them.

Yes it is, which is the price for everybody. I simply added the $300 for the Yahoo listing to the $400 I'm being quoted for the DMOZ listing. I agree the way I worded it was kind of fucktard-ish, sorry about that.

Either way, you're saying the Yahoo listing is worth it? Or both listings are worth it? I'm aware that these listings don't hold the power they did 5 or 10 years ago, but I'm getting lots of mixed opinions about their current value.

Take this thread for example. Even though I only got 2 responses, those responses were basically a yes and a no. Still unsure if the price of these listings is worth it so any more input from others would definitely be appreciated. Thanks.

    Just ask yourself two questions:
    1. is your target audience likely to stop-by these links?
    2. will they provide you a return in the same order of magnitude?

I guess you have a safe no to both of these questions. 2 links, $700: no.
In this category I would go for wikipedia or (local) newspaper link.

    They definitely carry weight..
These are not ordinary links that everybody is gonna have.. Not everybody is gonna spend 700 bucks on 2 links..
You will be the spl one, the one among a big crowd to be having these links, and ofc these are not spammed..!
So basically, your site will be stronger coz of this. Go by this common sense and forget everything else if you really have the extra budget to buy these.

I think for 700$ you can have much more valuable links

From my point of view yes, they are worth it. Maybe $400 for a DMOZ listing is a bit too much for some but still this depends on the site and of course, the budget that you have. If you will check around you'll see that some guys are selling easily obtainable links for more than $400/link.
If by any chance you decide to share the tip on how I could get a DMOZ listing for myself I would gladly accept it, if not, I will continue my struggle with finding a DMOZ editor.

My DMOZ listing is possible because of a personal connection to an editor, so unfortunately I can't help you with that. But I appreciate your input on my thread, thanks.

    No problem, I understand.

Good luck with the purchase, if I'd be you I wouldn't hesitate too much, at least DMOZ is not the regular link that you could get from any corner of the street.

In this same price you can easily get guest posts on big authority sites like DA90+ sites

I suggest you to go with contextual links on these sites where you can also get juicy traffic from those posts

    Just my 2 cents

dude, you better off spending that kinda money on getting quality backlinks to your site. there a ton of people on BHW selling this kinda services for cheap. $700 on yahoo/Dmoz is not worth it imo

I don't know if I'd be that black and white about it. This particular guy, as far as I know, has never done this for anybody before and is only doing me a favor because I saved his ass a long time ago. However, that said, he still wants money for it.;)

Plus, my site is huge, very high quality and already has a small following so it arguably deserves to be in there. I'm sure there are other editors selling links too, but you'd have to have a personal connection to them and/or pay heavy for it. Plus I don't think any editor would be dumb enough to throw up a piece of shit site that didn't deserve to be there, so you'd have to be on that level either way. Not saying you aren't, just saying.

So you're simply just paying him to "hurry up" or "bump you to the top of the list"
