Is anyone aware of any studies/statistics on the distribution of clicks that the top sites on Google get?

I've seen a couple on the internet but they have a very low number of participants so they're not very helpful! It'd be really interesting to be able to look at a study like this!

If not, perhaps you could share your experiences of the difference of being ranked at the end of page 1, the middle and the top?

    Thanks :)

Not sure of any studies but have had sites throughout the first page.

1st and second usually get 30-60% of clicks depending on niche and meta
I'd say remainder is distributed between 3rd to 7th

10th is like being on page 2 really

The latest (and apparently most up-to-date) CTR study is this one, from Sl*ingShot*Seo

    Code:

According to them, Position 1 gets 18%, 2nd - 10%, 3rd - 7% and it continues to dilluate as the positions go lower.

From my findings I don't quite agree with that study, but they're pretty close to the numbers I can report. Surely, it depends on the market - given the fact that most keywords they analyzed were for major retailers, and competition is fierce for these kind of keywords, I wouldn't put my money on their findings.

    Nevertheless, I'd say that 1st place gets ~ 30%, 2nd ~20-15%, 3rd - 12% and the rest dilluates over the 4-20th place.
