Hey guys,

I'm looking for a couple of reputable BHW members ideally seo veterans with some rep to check out my site. I don't wanna give away my niche to too many peeps but what I want is for them to try and tell me why I'm getting next to no traffic. I'm ranking on the first page for a few high searched keywords but getting under 20 hits a day...

Well I can take a look if you want. If you do not want to, then answer the following questions for yourself: Why are you assuming you would get more than that amount of traffic? Which tools have you been using for the keyword analysis? Have you double-checked your rankings (i.e. different browser, VPN connection)? Is your title and description expressing what searchers are looking for? Is there an authority site that may take the majority of traffic (e.g. Facebook.com for the term facebook)? Is your site showing different from the rest (e.g. all shopping sites with ratings, yours a blog)?

If you have been using keyword tools like Google's Adwords Tool, or Wordtracker, then you must know that they sometimes do not show the right traffic values. Happened to me once that a 123k exact term per month turned out to send 10 visitors per day for the number one spot.

There are lots of possibilities, but the most likely one is a) a authority site gets the majority of traffic, or b) the keyword tool used was not accurate.

Ok radical, hit me up on a messenger mate. My handles are in my profile :)

I bet you assumed your traffic off of some wonky numbers.

The REAL number of clicks you'll get will be (at most) 25% of the EXACT and LOCAL number of your Google keyword tool. I bet you looked at GLOBAL.

I'm gonna make a prediction without knowing the niche or keyword or even seeing the site:

If you're getting 20 clicks per day on a particular site and you're at the #1 spot, I bet your EXACT and LOCAL number will be around 2,400 searches a month. NOT the huge number next to it in the GLOBAL column.

20 clicks per day x (4) = 80 searches per day x 30 per month = 2,400 EXACT LOCAL searches. I'd make the final number more like 3,000 per month.

How'd I do?

I used the numbers from this tool:
http://www.google.com/sktool/#

It says 18,000 searches per month. Not sure how to check what is broad and exact using this tool. I did UK only searches and this is optimised for the UK. It appears top 10 for most of my keys in the UK. I'm at 4th-10th spot on most keys....

there it is. You didn't even use EXACT. So don't complain why you only get that much traffic. This is a keyword tool by GOOGLE duh! If it were to display wrong info then lots of adsense advertisers will be pissed.

Care to elaborate peter rather than make a smart comment? What is exact? and for my other sites this tool has proven to be pretty correct for traffic and searches. This isn't the adwords tool either keep in mind...

Recently THOUSANDS of terms have changed EXACT traffic.

The numbers were either wrong for months or they are right now with a dramatic shift in it's figures.

You can't say teh tool is right when it changed so much in such a short period of time.

Yeah ok thanks that's better. It's an absolute nightmare. I've seen one of my sites had 80,000 impressions in the past 2 weeks for a keyword on there that said had 20,000 searches and another site i have about wasps got 20,000 impressions on a key that was high up on the list.

I'm gonna break my rules and release the info of this site as it's a mystery to me and would appreciate some advice from the forum. The site is http://www.syndicatelotto.net and it's advertising a UK national lottery syndicate. It's on page 1 for many keywords including national lottery uk, camelot lottery etc. What keywords would you guys aim for? the only one I can see that would be completely worthwhile would be national lottery but I'd like some help guys.

What do your keyword tools say?

Why be such a jerk about it. The guy is asking a question, you have the answer fine, if not move the fk on. Unreal:rolleyes:

Also try wonderwheel, it will narrow down your search, I am not an expert on this but will ask a friend for you.

Lol thanks man but at the moment, getting 10 hits a day or so, the content is at the back of my mind. When I get 100 hits a day or so I'll start changing it. It's a basic cookie cutter design while I feel my way round it. Thanks for the tip tho, any criticism is taken on board...

Make sure you are logged out of iGoogle before checking your SERPs... Or if you need a pick me up then stay logged in! ;)

Your traffic will vary wildly depending on the position you are in on the first page. Last time I checked position 1 gets roughly 55% of the traffic, position 2 gets like 15% and it keeps dropping drastically as you get lower. So even though you have page 1 placement does not necessarily mean you will see the level of traffic you were expecting.

m subscribed...

I checked both the terms, u ranked on page one on both of them...

I checked the local exact searches
national lottery uk :22,200
camelot lottery : 3600

Well, we can understand why you aint getting traffic for camelot lottery.. Since the keyword itself gets roughly 100 searches per day, consider the fact that you are not the number one spot and also the fact that these numbers are not exact...

We can understand..
But, i cant really get why you dont get traffic for national lottery uk.

It happened with me as well. It was a main keyword for my site.. Very large no. of searches and competition.. targetted it for one year, got no traffic..

I assume that some of the numbers are misleading which is most probably the reason for your site.. But, i cant believe, you are ranking for many keywords and none of them is pulling in traffic..

Something that may help determining how much traffic to expect is checking the alexa rank of sites that in the top positions for your target keyword. Checkout the alexa search traffic details and try to get an idea of what percentage of the traffic that site gets from that particular keyword. It isn't always accurate but it is better than taking shots in the dark.

Always use exact match. There is really no reason to go for broad match unless you what to dominate an entire niche.

OK, here's the Google research across the pond on the East Coast:

syndicatelotto.png

OK, so you have a U.K. site, so my numbers won't be your numbers, but from what I see the keyword "syndicate lotto" sucks. It's shows for the entire planet only 90 people a month are searching for the exact term. If that's true, then those 90 people are LOCAL to you. (I'm just guessing - I could be totally wrong, I don't see what you're seeing. Upload the same screen capture from your end, let's see.)

Last time I checked position 1 gets roughly 55% of the traffic, position 2 gets like 15%

Magic: I'm calling you out on that 55% number. Where are you getting that? I say it's only 25% of the traffic if your #1. I'm going by MY numbers from MY sites. I have about a half dozen sites at #1 at the moment. 25% is the average max, usually it's lower.

55% doesn't make sense. Let's say you add the 15% for the second place spot. (70% for just the top two positions) - Everyone on the planet ignores the top paid ads that sit ABOVE the #1 organic spot on Google?

The first question we gotta ask is: How much traffic does the paid adwords get of the total page average? (all of them) It's gotta be up there. THEN how much does the #1 organic spot get?

Dude, the same thing happen to me with the guitar****** keyword. It has 103k local and 301k global search. I'm at position number 1 and guess what, only 4 visitors a day. It's a game we have to play.
