Say you've got a stagnant site that you haven't updated in 6 months, but it ranks well.

You decide to expand the site, not touching the existing content, but adding new content.

Discuss situations where doing this could cause its rankings for the old keywords to drop.

Dilution of existing internal linking and PR flow with no new added link juice causes rankings to drop.

Addition of off topic content causes weakening of term vectors associated with your site.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it.
