Never used the disavow tool but I have a site I made when I was a noob I want to try and rank.

    It's metrics are 18TF 18CF 22DA 34PA 60RD.

Unfortunately, I had no idea what I was doing back then, so I bought a bunch of cheap PBN links.

I'm ranking like 150-250 for every keyword I'm trying. On-page is perfect, metrics of the site are great.

Only issues are some over-optimized anchor text, and the crappy pbns in the backlinks profile.

    Would you disavow?

You could try tier 2 and 3 backlinks and wait a while.

I had a pure spam penalty and fixed it. One part was disallowing backlinks and now the site ranks pretty good again. How old is your site already/how old are the links?

its about 8 months old, the links are about 5-6 months old. Never really had success ranking this site so I'm wondering if it's the backlink profile, have other sites ranking in the top 5 no issues

Just move on, if it isn't ranking and it has loads of spam just make a new site.

You can always keep it hosted and see how it rides out the water.

The problem is that I put so much time into this site when I was first starting out, and it's targeting really profitable keywords which aren't very tough. Made over $100 from this site without it ranking just from some social media, so I know if I can get the traffic it will really pay off :/

So just put the site on a new domain? Then rank this one properly.

    Learn from your mistakes mate!

Here is a tutorial if it is on WP:

Wouldn't I need to make all new content though? I thought google will see it as duplicate content. And If I just do a 301 then it will still pass on the crappy links?

You delete the hosting files from the other domain, don't 301 pages you feel with have a penalty.

    Dear mate,

In your case don’t use the Google Disavow tool to disavow links.

You will only be feeding the fire further!.

    Go for new site

Well, a lot of people recommend you to move on - that's an option. You could to a 301 but it would not be smart if it is really on googles radar.

There are three things you can do.
    - Create a new site, use the nearly same content(spun it a bit) and change the theme if this is possible. This way it would not be so easy for google to recognise the site as the same. Of course you have to put down your old site and use a new domain.
    - Disallow bad backlinks and build tier backlinks to the good ones. I don't think that you will make it worse by disallowing as long as you got no manual penalty. This way everyone who does negative SEO would always have success.
    - Build a new site on a different hosting which is similar to yours and don't do stupid stuff this time. Build good backlinks to both sites but not always the same ones. Use tier backlinks and if this doesn't change anything for the first site in 2 months use the disallow tool. If both sites do not work after 6 months let the niche be or search for another traffic source instead of google. You already mentioned social media.

I would recommend option 3. Nobody can really tell you what the better decision is, it's like gambling.
