After the Penguin update it looks like people are getting a LOT more anal about what they're blasting to their money sites.

So what do you regard as 'safe' these days to use directly on your money site? Have people really gone into a cave and are just blasting blogs and web2.0 articles??? Or are any of you still blasting bookmarks, wiki's, and other stuff to MS?

I actually still use everything, only to varying degrees. My primary backlinks come from blogs and web 2.0s. Then I scatter in a few blog comments, social bookmarks, wikis and press releases. I think being consistent and cautious is now the name of the game.

    Everything.

That's pretty much the point really.
You now need to use even more platforms to link from.
It's not a case of cutting ones out, it's more a case of adding many more, having links with content that puts them in context (rather than just a 12 word profile or whatever) on as many different platforms as possible with a wider range of anchor text.

You need the same number of links with

    • More anchor variation
    • Slightly slower build rate (link acceleration)
    • More platform variations

Don't cut anything out ADD MORE [yes this means a little more work - but not that much]

What about links from site everyone else is spamming such as this one:
    http://www.nsui.in/mod/blog/everyone.php?offset=0

Also for example wikis sites are getting deleted/replaced pretty fast, so one who uses them for backlinks could get negative link velocity.

    Fair question.

The answer is that you need to build links over time - a consistent linking profile.
There also needs to be an element of subtle acceleration from the standing start
Remembering of course in link your inner pages
    Some WILL get deleted.
WIKI's are doing what article sites did 18 months ago. I did a post about it a day or so ago. There are at least 7 WIKI posting tools that I could name, including a free one (only one WIKI platform - but free all the same) on this very forum.

So WIKI's..Well, I'd .scan those for PR, age and maybe Alexa rank first and only post to those that have been around a while, have traffic and authority.
These are very likely the ones that will still be here in a year.
A lot of folks have abandoned article marketing now - which if you think about it makes no sense at all.
The article sites left ARE THE GOOD ONES. The crap has been culled.
150 good links on good article sites with PR, traffic and on niche is so much better than 7000 links on article sites full of linkspam shit.
WIKIs will go the same way.
My idea would be to be careful on them now -but always keep them in your mix, the good ones will survive and adapt - just like you have to with your linking strategy.

    Remember though. Backlinks DO DIE.
Google has no issue with a little bit of BL death.
Just keep making them. As automated as possible, and don't forget syndication of your existing content (positng your sites articles a week after publishing with a backlink to the original and another to another page on your site otr the main URL) is fine, as is doing fancy stuff with your RSS feed.

Keep linking buddy, just keep up with the changes - and remember, for every guy that bails on SEO (and lots have in the last 3 months) that's a bigger slice of the internet "cash cake" left for those of us who adapt and survive, because the internet is making more money than ever, and it's not going anywhere but up.
There's just less people to share it with ;)
