How can I connect my computer directly to the modem while at the same time, the router is also being connected to the modem.

I don't want to connect my computer to the router but I also need my router running at the same time. My modem have only one direct ethernet connection port.

Any ideas?

Is this what it is for? http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF...id=1450671678&sr=1-1&keywords=ethernet+switch

If that is the solution, does that device have a MAC Address? I need the modem to see my computer mac address. Will the modem be able to see my computer mac address if that device is in between my computer and the modem?

that is just a simple switch that doesn t have a routing option. you need to root the internet connection from your modem to your vlan. in order to do this you need a router. you can use the router to root the internet connection and the switch from amazon for your vlan, but in any of the cases you need a router.

No. This isn't the method I was asking about.

I need a direct connection from my computer to modem because I want the modem to read my MAC address.

Will an actual ethernet splitter be the solution to this? But I heard this method doesn't work, not sure.

What if I buy a modem with more than 1 ethernet ports? Will that be a solution?
