Hi all, kindly give me some advise on what to do. I'll start off by telling what's happened to my site.

site: example.com (Not my real site) - I bought this as an expired domain, it was created in 2002 and I was hoping this would save me some instead of starting with a fresh domain.

trying to rank one of the inner pages: example.com/luma-reviews

trying to rank for keyword: luma reviews (Just an example)

    competition: damn easy

Top ranking site backlinks: By using ahrefs, all I saw the top 3 sites have were just a few PBN links.

To start of, I know quite a lot about SEO on-page and off-page, so I know what i'm doing on page wise (silo, etc).

Week 1, I created example.com/luma-reviews, and finished internal linking them. None of the internal links have exact match anchors, it's all "click here", "find out more about lumia here", you know the gist.
After all is said and done, I was ranking on #27 purely on this internal links.
I then pointed some of my PBNs to it (7 PBNS), and it shot up to #17.
Now here comes the part that screwed my site up (I guess). I then proceeded to purchase a backlink package from Zest Media, which shot me up to #10, the highest I've got. I was ecstatic!
A few days later, thinks starting going downhill (On October 16 onwards), it started to slip all the way to #36. I sent an email to Zest Media, and they said I should buy another package of theirs, and dont stop link building, as i would regain the ranking back if I continuously build links to my site.

Of course, I did not continue their package, but few days ago I purchased 10 high PR PBNs from a reputable seller here, and checked their work. It was splendid, everything was top notch, even articles. I used only 20% exact match anchor on it.

My rankings have now dropped to #42, which I think is a dance. The ironic thing is, the page ranking at #41 is my page which is example.com/detailed-lumia-reviews, as I was preparing this page in case I fucked up my initial lumia-reviews page.

This detailed-lumia-reviews inner page has NO backlinks built to it yet! All internal links. Only thing extra was that I inserted a backlink from lumia-reviews pointing to detailed-lumia-reviews, maybe that gave it the juice???
I used anchor text "read here for the detailed version of the review".

To sum it all, i am in a dilemma now whether to abandon lumia-reviews and start fresh with detailed-lumia-reviews, or start and maintain building backlinks to lumia-reviews.
But WTF man, the top 3 sites dont even have that many backlinks that i have. I last checked my page and I had over 400 backlinks, 70% naked urls, 3% money anchor. Nothing fishy.
How the fuck can the top 3 rank with less than 10 BACKLINKS!

do we really need to continuously build backlinks to maintain a rank??? As I dont see the top 3 doing this, at least from what I can see in Ahrefs.

    thanks guys for the feedback.

There is no such thing as a reliable backlinks provider. U messed up when u bought those links. 99% of this services are under G observation. If ur keyword had low comp u should have made some relevant backlinks by hand and enjoy the profits. My advice to u is start fresh and dont make the same mistake twice.

Also, do you think it's because I did not build any additional links to my homepage?

Update: I found out that my on-page is under optimized, and have made changes to include more of the keywords.
Hopefully this will push it up the serps.

Still waiting for G to recrawl my updated page. Do you guys know of a faster way to let G know I have updated the page? Prefer not to wait for weeks until it's updated.

Subscribed to this thread to see what effects your changes will make. What SEO plugin are you using (if you use WP at all) because I've found with the Yoast SEO plugin it's pretty easy

You built too many backlinks to that page of your site and Google sandboxed it and ranked the next most relevant page on your site for that keyword. Your competitors have aged backlinks, so it shouldn't surprise you that they rank with fewer links.

Hi all, just to update. After making all the changes, the new page has now disappeared for this keyword (Probably G detects my old page was more relevant). And now it's steadily climbing up on #32 currently. Hoping for more positive news soon. Also, I should be continuing building daily backlinks right (Never stop)? As my links age, I'm hoping it will shoot to page 1.

It's dropped again 2 spot to #33. Hmm something must not be right..... It's hovering on page 4, on #31-#34. Do you think it's a temporary sandbox, and should I give it more time since it's 3-4 months old.

You said that the competition was damn easy yet with all those inner and PBN backlinks, your inner page is having a hard time to reach top 5 in the SERPs. Try to re-assess your page. An article with great on-page seo even without external backlinks, shouldn't have a problem getting the top spot in a damn easy competition.

Update: It's now jumped up further to #22!
Probably this is due to daily backlinks beginning to kick-in. I started the daily backlinks about 1 month ago (they take time to index).
