Forum signature for getting backlinks is not a new technic and definitely not blackhat. However forum signature do not carry much linkjuice. It's just another link though.

Anyway you are trying to give back something to the forum. That's nice.

How does googlebot differ "forum signature" link from other links?
That is retorical question, don't answer.

Learn how to pass PR fast and don't listen to bullshit like "forum signature do not carry much linkjuice"

That's a very good trick

I suppose all vBulletin boards, not sure about the phpBB boards because they check if the image is valid or not.

There are like what... 20 posts per page...on a forum... multiplied by 4 signatures each... there goes 80 links per page - usually a pr 0 page.

Not much juice indeed.

I actually use it more for a higher backlink count (yahoo) so when I would sell the website I could say it has 5000 backlinks.

This is a good trick. This technique will probably not help the PR of a site but it might help a site to get a few more visitors.

I have about 1,000 posts on digitalpoint and I've gotten pr1 having only links from my digitalpoint signature at one point.
