Difference between HTTPS and HTTP proxies?

Hi blackhaters, i am confused about the difference between http and https proxies.
I tried to search in G, but serps are overspammed with services or proxy lists.

So i have 3 suggestions:

1). http proxy can't access https sites and https can do it.
2). There is ssl certificate on the https proxy machine/pc.
3). First 2 suggestions are wrong and anybody will help me to understand the differences.

the important thing is the letter S which makes the difference between
HTTP and HTTPS. The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure". You probably didn't
need me to tell you that, because you already knew it had something to do with security.

If you visit a website or webpage, and look at the address in the web browser,
it will likely begin with the following: http://. This means that the website is talking
to your browser using the regular 'unsecure' language. In other words, it is possible
for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website
If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is
talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

It should be pointed out that just because a website has that magic "S" in its address
that does not mean it is wise to do business with them; even scam artists can have https sites
it simply means that no outsiders can eavesdrop on your conversation...doesn't mean
you should be having the conversation in the first place. Only do business with reputable firms
or firms you have thoroughly checked out!

Thank you proxygo, really great answer, but i know the differece between http/s protocols. My question is about the differences in proxy's topic/area. Like in ProxyFire Master Suite, you can see there is SSL column.
I can't understand this.

sorry miss read your post ......SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

https proxies must perform a man in the middle attack on the traffic. https does not let the middleman know what the target host is, so it can't forward traffic without decrypting it.

so a https proxy must retrieve the ssl cert from the target site as if it was a legitimate visitor, fake a signature on that cert and forward the signed traffic back to you. far as i know that's what https proxies do. in fact https was designed precisely to avoid such middlemen.

EDIT : I may be wrong about this, IIRC you need a separate ssl connection to the proxy, to which you reveal the target host.

I think that i found my answer.
Https / ssl proxies support tunnel connection to the server.
This can be tested with CONNECT comand.

So, if we open tunnel connection to proxy server and the server returns code 200 - proxy supports ssl and it's called https proxy.

facebook uses HHTPS connections thats just safer.
So if u want to connect to facebook u need HTTPS proxy or ure not safe
