Backlinks Still Here to Stay for some time -- How long no one knows, this is what Matt Cutts said as usual keeping us all guessing.

But essentially over the years backlinks will be discounted hugely over other factors like, authority of the person who has written an article, from where the link is coming from, rather than a guy who can just published his first article with a backlink.

So
If Danny Sullivan writes an article which will have a backlink, will have lot more importance than
Me, You, XYZ writing an article with the same backlink as above.

And they are moving away from keyword searches ,and focusing on being over smart essentially :)

What will happen to all our BHW fellow members who are making a living out by selling Backlinking Service, if BL are rendered useless in coming years.

Backlinks will always be important and even if this was the case, I'd just link build more to compensate, test things or adapt to the changes. SEO is never going to die, Google has to rank a site somehow.

Useless thread..

Google's ultimate goal is to sell you only ads. The rest is just confusion in the process and I Matt Cunts only job is to be a distraction while the "Do no Evil" works on only evil.

I know of a site that tries to rank websites based on manual review only, without considering backlinks.
It's called Dmoz.
Do you ever use Dmoz?
I didn't think so.

Google is clever enough to know that they need to do more than just 'build a list'... and the only way to intelligently do that is to do so by looking at who's linking to who, and build an index based on that.
Therefore, backlinks will continue to be relevant for quite some time.

@Tony
ofcourse i know Dmoz -- Anyone into IM not knowing of Dmoz, shouldnt be into IM

backlinks will continue to be relevant,: but MC hinted that they are rolling out new changes which will make it more search friendly,

which i guess will make difficult for IMer's who are targetting kw's to rank.

Damn! Have to change the technology again

True? Oh yes :D :D
No more link spamming!! Blehh... never gonna happen. :/

It doesn't make sense. Maybe they want to make important links more important and weaker links more weaker but they can't make them useless.

Now everybody will focus on building authority which will lead to more garbage being published on the web.
