    Howdy!

So I may have chosen my username well, haha.

Signed up for cloud hosting. Unlimited!! Was told it could easily handle over 20k a day in visitors!

First thing I notice.. Admin has Awstats turned off. I ask for them to be turned on, he says it uses up resources so keeps it off. That should have been a red flag, huh?

Last night.. I noticed my cpu usage hit 100%. The stats he provided say I had 48 visits, 211 hits. And I posted a link to the site in a group, and 1 person claimed the site wasn't loading, another claimed broken link 5 hours later.

Host told me, when usage spikes, it is site up to throttle a website for a few seconds to stop it from going down. Nothing in the stats showed there was a spike 5 hours later...

So he basically promised more than the service offered, and I should jump to a new host, right? The site was just loading another site in an iframe. So wasn't doing anything major.

lmao :) when you folks will understand webhosting is '' part of the game '' . there are very very few real hostings ... most of them just resell others services ... Unlimited my ass there is not such thing on '' unlimited webhosting '' still we can speak here about some pretty high limits is true *( like space / bw and so on ) BUT there is NOTHING LIKE UNLIMITED HOSTING . Everything is just a damn bullshit used for marketing that's all . 48 visits and 221 hits you better host your site into your home computer =)) instead paying them the fees LOL

Under $30 bucks a year.. and great reviews in the thread, hahahaha.

But, I know it is never actually unlimited. I figured.. it was at least.. useful. :yell:

I do have an account with Inmotion Hosting, and it has been great so far. But it is shared, and I'd like to have another host (thinking maybe VPS) to host more sites.. so I don't have all my eggs on one host, to say.

I will admit, I am kinda a "newb" to the ins and outs of hosting, but I really should have figured it out after he said awstats couldn't be used.

well ... awstats isn't the big problem over there , it's a tool , anything what runs into a computer using resources ... and to be honest I think you can live without it I think . The problem raise when you see '' reviews '' :) c'mon ...do you really believe on that shit yet ? anyone still bite the thing :)? everyone who need to '' boost '' their product/service using and asking peoples about reviews ... it's an trick at the end of the day to speed the '' momentum '' lol
Speaking about this , wile back like couple of months chatting with a cool guy over chat he told me and I was simply '' WTF is wrong there '' that guy bought hes damn cell phone because he read some damn '' reviews '' on some spammy sites =)) ... woke up dude ! :) YOU are buying a product IF YOU WANNA / IF YOU NEED it ... not because some retards write any garbage what they have on their mind on web ! ...
In general in economy / real world ... whatever ... price for a product or service it's reflected . What means this ? simple ... anything what you bought ever in your life the price paid for it it's '' justified '' somehow ... for example an handbag from gucci , or a pair of running shoes , or a car ... or the gas for your bike ...
Ask yourself for hosting in this case $30 per year ... what you need to have an server up and ready for hosting :)
    1. computer(s) 2. ip(s) 3. network infrastructure 4. power :) ...
at this price maybe you can buy 2gb ram ? well if you get some wholesale deals maybe you can go bit cheaper ... HOW do you think any solid company will cover their costs for renting you at this price a server ? Simply answer overselling ... bring 100 peoples like you for paying small amounts :D for '' virtually same thing '' .

Oh, trust me.. I don't always believe reviews. I figured on WF, if people were having real problems, there would be complaints. Didn't really see anything. You are right, the price seemed too good to be true. It was a special offer, he was new, so I let myself believe he was offering it lower to the marketers so we'd get him more customers.

I'm now looking at Spamahost as a potability. They have a thread here on BHW, started in June 2010. I also don't see any bad reviews (another hosting company on here, got torn up by posters) and they seem to be priced moreso what you'd expect. So.. think that's something I can trust, right?

You bought hosting from a WSO??? You're kidding right?

Betcha that Warrior is having a chuckle right about now. Especially since he probably used these services to get his positive reviews...

    Is that on Fiverr? Hhahahaha.

Well, please give me thanks and rep for showing the newbies what not to do.

I've actually run a WSO, which was legit with real reviews... didn't know it WAS that bad.

OMG. Now the website is completely down, but it turns out, my affiliate link I was loading in it, in an iframe, is dead.

So maybe I blamed the wrong person here.

Still should get better hosting though.

That hosting is subpar even compared to vanilla shared hosting. A cheap hostgator account will probably handle way more before they even blink. Also, if you have a website(s) that you know has a chance of going viral (traffic spikes), try (mt)'s grid. Their $20.00/mo grid plan allows up to 100 domains, and plenty of resources (not unlimited, but guaranteed, ie. 1tb transfer).

Hostgator has been decent to me. Nothing amazing, but no complaints. Especially not like the troubles you were having. Good luck on your next hosting endeavor!

I'd say a dedicated server if you're getting anywhere close to that imaginary 20k limit. A lot of VPS are still shared and it's still not a real dedicated server even if it's not shared.

Check out http://www.surpasshosting.com/ and if you want my affiliate link lemme know hahaha.

I've actually had Inmotion Hosting for four years and they've been great. I just feel like I should have sites on another host. Split them. Smart, dumb? But having my first host be wonderful, didn't prepare me for how utterly dumb some can be it seems.
Good to know. I was even thinking reseller with Hostgator.. believing it could be faster than their shared? I know reseller is still shared, but I'd assume less share the resources. I hope.

Hmm... haven't heard of mt before, looks interesting. I was building a site I thought could go real viral.. but one key feature ended up not working so I couldn't launch. But I'd like to find a host I can join, low cost but able to scale up if I have more traffic and need a higher plan or if I just have a quick burst.

My current host is proudhosts (dot) com. It is totally possible maybe my newbness has it wrong, he did give me an SSL and dedicated IP for free as promised (since the affiliate network was to blame for today, not him). Those better able to track / whatever able to tell if he does look legit?

Come on man, if I had that many visitors I would do that too. But I don't. He was making statements about the hosting, so I asked if it could handle that. Maybe a site I make goes viral, would be nice to know if it could handle it! I like thinking long term.. like that, haha.

Never heard of them, does Unmetered bandwidth actually mean unlimited? Or is there a hidden limit as well?

Im also looking. I read good things about spamahost and signed up with them, but I have been waiting for 6 days now to get my server up after I paid them. No support - no nothing - just automated responses. Im going to try another company. I will keep you guys posted.

Why couldn't you let this thread stay dead?!? It makes me look dumb, haha.

I've been with InMotionHosting for 4 years. They have been great, and they have 24/7 support with no line like HG. I'd recommend them.

As for the hosting company this thread is about?

The dude was a total scam artist. Once he had a ton of people buy with WSO's and the server's unable to handle it, he sold the company / website on Flippa for $4000.

Dude just go with hostgator.. they are cheap enough and I get tons of traffic to my blogs. I have a regular account, not a VPS or reseller, and I have no trouble with spend or down time. I must deal at least 10K PVs a day per account. No problems in over 3 years. I do however back my sites up myself, even though I have never had a problem, I have heard horror stories.
