I registered a domain for a Wordpress blog a few days ago. Checked on Godaddy, it was available... so I grabbed it.

I setup my wordpress blog and added my Adsense ads.

The first strange thing I noticed was that it was only showing public service ads. All my other blogs have started showing relevant ads straight away.

The next weird thing was that after 3 days it was still not indexed on Google. All my other blogs have been indexed within 24 hours.

I decided today to check on Bing and Yahoo to see if it was showing up.

When I put in the URL results came up from Ezine Articles with relevant articles with signatures pointing back to my brand new blog!!

So, I checked on Way Back Time Machine and noticed it was registered in 2008 and was set up as a wordpress blog.

So, would it be right to assume that the previous owner somehow got the domain banned on Google and let it expire? And even after it has expired and is then re registered it is still banned???

I have NEVER thought of checking this before registering a new domain but I sure will be in the future!

Unless I have got this completely wrong, but I cant think of any other explaination!

Yea that could be a problem actually.
Still i thought google would still scrape the site and once new content is available and not against the TOS then your site will get listed.
This could perhaps be the reason for a delay in listings.
Should not be a problem though.
With the Adsense. I have noticed delays of upto a few days myself.

You should contact google and let them know that the domain is under new ownership, cause it seems to me that the domain has been flagged manually due to somebody complaining about it.

Thanks, I may try that although I dont think Google will really care.

I will make sure I research the history of a "new" domain in the future though.

Did the same thing a couple years ago with domains for a link wheel. Bought the net and info extensions on sale, and after about a month of the same probs as you, found the com was a listed phishing and virus threat from the same previous owners... Don't make that mistake too often any more.

It's fixable with the content, rss/ping, and g contact posted here if this is the case and not anything severe. Good luck...

Do the Big G has that many staff and time to handle these kind of request? I think they will just ignore you. Make the Sitemap if you haven't and submit it in G Webmaster Tools. Also add some fresh unique content and gradually build links and you'll back soon. :)

Also keep us updated about your results as this experiment would give us all great knowledge. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I should've been a bit more patient.
The Site is now indexed and is showing ads! Just took a bit longer than I am used to.

    :)

I would wait a couple weeks to be sure, sometimes you just get a dud. One of my sites took 6 weeks to index and the ones I developed at the same time indexed in 24 hours. I wouldn't freak out yet, you do have the domain until next year..

Just wait. G can see that it is under new ownership just like they can see who registered the domain and how long until it expires. That is why adding 2+ years to your domain has SEO benefits. Build backlinks to it consistently for another week to 10 days and if it is not indexed by then I would start to worry.

Also, did it have any backlinks to it when you purchased the domain? If so check them out and see how the previous owner structured his SEO campaign - which, technically you shuold have done before buying the domain.

It has been indexed now, and ads are showing fine but thanks for the advice. I will definately do checks on the history of any domains I register in the future!
