    Dear BHW,

When researching my local foreign market I stumbled to a keyword with approx. 300 000 monthly search volume according to G's keyword tool. I checked it with Traffic Travis and it claims the competition is "relatively easy". Top10 consists of old authority domains mainly which are not targeting that keyword at all (Ahref shows something like 15 backlinks pointing to a page that sits currently on 3rd place).

Something has to be wrong, right? Just a bug in KW tool? Something else? This is a pretty general one-word keyword but still, if you got that kind of volume there has to be money on the table.

If it isn't going to cost you much, or anything, to put whatever idea you have for that keyword into action, you should just publish something.

The worst that could happen is you expanded your portfolio.

The cost is not an issue. I'm definitely going for this but I'm just thinking could it really be that easy? :D

    Important points

    1. Have you checked the exact keyword box.

    2. Does the keyword look monetizable

    3. Can you find other similar keywords or add long tail that improves monetization. For eg: Buy Keyword

If your ans is yes to above, then put up a site, rank it and try monetizing all that traffic. All the best. Note that some times G tool has glitches.

Last month I was able to find a keyword that gets 60k searches with little to no competition.

Monetization can be an issue, but once you get all the traffic that you possibly could then money will not be any issue anymore. I say dominate this niche! :D

You said "local", are you sure that there aren't different local results searching from different cities?
Change your city location in the search-settings, and compare the results.

I say that because one of clients site's is ranking 4# for a money-keyword with 700.000 exact searches, but the website itselve get's only about 100 visitors a day at most.

    It is because:
1# Each city, even small one's, get their own local results, as this service is almost in every city available
2# Additionaly there's the Google Maps placements starting at 3#

    1. yes.

    2. It's not really a money keyword. If I have to profile people searching for this I think they are mainly those who are not too familiar with internet and are just looking for "something" :D

    3. Yes! And I think the long tail is where the money really lie on.

It could be a glitch with Google. I found an exact match with 250k and knew it couldn't be correct. The comp was zero, but anyways I put up a site and hit no1 in a few weeks and was getting about 5 to 10 hits a day. A month later the keyword was showing as 300 a day! It was 250k for weeks and weeks, then went to 300.

My cynical mind wonders if Google drops some of these on purpose. but as everyone has said, you won't know until you try.

I messed up in my first post. This is country wide.

@dotcomdesigns Exactly! You never know if you don't try. I'm building my own links so it's just a cost of a domain+hosting.

Thanks guys for your support and motivation! This is a wonderful forum. :)

It is possible but gold mine? you won't know until you try. I found a keyword with 4 million searches a month and competition low. page that is 1# on google is something that was programmed from 1996 and wasn't updated since early 2000's says the wayback website.

Ill dabble with it as the niche can be expanded into sub niches

Just look at the google trends and see if the keyword is being searched all the time or if its seasonable or maybe it has reached that amount of searched during the last months.

This will help you determine if you want to go for it or not!
