Did I inadvertently cause Google to de-index a bunch of my pages?

In Google Webmaster Tools, for whatever reason, under Sitemaps, it has always read way too many items submitted and way too many indexed. For example, I've only got 26 posts but it would say 144 URLS submitted, 66 indexed. So, knowing this was wrong, I decided to switch my sitemap from the integrated xml sitemap functionality of Yoast, to a standalone sitemap plugin that I've always used, xml sitemaps by arne brachold.

I disabled the xml sitemap in Yoast, then enabled the new xml sitemap plugin, generated a new sitemap and submitted through the WMT dashboard. This morning, I checked it and it says 26 URLS submitted, 2 indexed. Well, the 26 part is right this time. But why only 2 indexed? Maybe Google just needs a couple days to sort it out?

I checked by searching my brand in google and sure enough, only a couple of results came up - so I must be mostly de-indexed.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Good point. Actually, between my post and now, it all came back. I never thought about the tags, cats, etc.... Oh well, I figured it was jacked up but it was ok then, and it's ok now too. I appreciate the response!

Also make sure dynamic pages aren't harming your sites from search queries getting indexed: example: q? or q= pages
