Did Google just Roll out a New Update

Wait a few days. There is a good chance to you will regain your rankings back.

Haha I am one of those nuts that flip out every time something happens haha...I have already started taking actions to improve rankings.

Was only looking at mozcast earlier and saw big spikes on tues, wed, and thrurs, but no ranking drops for me yet.. touch wood.

If it was a critical update, someone would have said something. Just make sure, as always, that your grounds are covered.

It is what exactly has happened to me, one of my sites with around 1500 UVs a day lost almot 80% of its traffic and google webmaster central doesn't show me anything regarding a penalty.

One of mine got hit, too.
2 of my main 5 KWs plummeted out of the top 250 and two more moved down a few positions.

It's hard to really say it's an 'update' in the sense that they rolled out some kind of new major change (e.g. Panda, Penguin, etc...), but it seems that there's changes like this fairly often that impact a relatively small portion of sites.

Small updates happen all the time. GA seems to have been acting odd recently on and off so maybe that is being expanded. The sky isn't falling though.

my amazon affiliates sites have suddenly started to get some traffic from nowhere since a week. may be some change in algo.

Hey, I experianced the 0 traffic glitch also, the next day everything was OK

This happened to me before. You can check your server stats to make sure.

Theres been A LOT of bugs lately. A bug with analytics, a bug with ahrefs, a bug outside my window. :)

But seriously, there MAY have been an update. One of my sites has had a steady #1 ranking for months now on dozens of keywords. And a few of those keywords dropped to #2 and 3 today which is weird. They usually never dance. I'm hoping they pop back up #1 soon. I'm not losing a lot of traffic but I'm losing enough to think something may be up.

updates all the time, google it, they are constantly tweaking things. There is a thread like this everyday, usually nothing to do with updates but sites falling foul of the existing algorithm, that undeniably changes, but is essentially the same thing.

mozcast..

Look at algoroo.. over the past few months nothing.. end of Jan / so far in February it's been going nuts.. people all across BHW are complaining of their sites jumping up and down violently through multiple threads, I've been tracking the threads here as far as updates over the past year, other than when the big algorithm changes came in (hummingbird, penguin, etc) this is probably the most significant I've seen it since.

My client has been on 1st page for 4 months for 16 keywords, all of a sudden he disappeared off Google, and is only showing on the 3rd - 4th page for 5 keywords, that is significant to me. I'm not going to say what method I'm using, because I think the more we talk here, the more Google is using this as a source of information to see what SEOs are up to, so they can destroy the latest working trend. The problem is, Google is essentially looking out for it's own bottom line, they want people to convert to PPC (and with each passing day I believe more strongly in this conspiracy theory), so they are destroying the SEO market to improve their own PPC market, it's so evident by now because they won't let us look for any meaningful ways to get our websites listed anymore.

They are even hitting legitimate websites that have done no wrong such as my client, with absolutely no warning, and giving webmasters no semblance of control over their links or whether or not they can get back in Google's "good graces".

Rant over
