Hi Folks,

My website (niche site) ranks first for a few specific keywords in desktop searches. In mobile searches, I can't get past my competitor, and no matter what I do, I can't get past second place.
My competitor has been on the market for a very long time, but has disastrous Web Vitals scores and fails the test for both mobile and desktop. Does anyone have any tips on what I can try or what different optimisations I need to make for mobile?

- Speed is good
- The site is responsive and mobile friendly, of course

thank you!

if they're google partner, or if they're buying google ads, or if they've been stickied there by google you can't outrank them no matter what you try.

Also, this proves once again, that authority and trust is the name of the game nowadays.

Best you can do is try to outrank them for keywords they're not targeting, get more traffic than them via long tail keywords and hope that google will swap you with them at some point

Ranking #2 on mobile while being #1 on desktop is common. Even with poor Web Vitals, your competitor might have stronger backlinks or better mobile engagement. Try tweaking your title/meta for better CTR, improve above-the-fold content, and check for mobile UX issues in GSC.
