You folks here are a ray of sunshine and I'm relying on you for some honest information. That is, if there IS such a thing as honest information on the internet - I'm beginning to wonder.

I am getting close to broke and very disillusioned. It seems to me that almost everything turns out to be at worst a scam - and at best, not what it promised to be.

I don't want to flog adult material. I don't want to push gaming sites. (No offence intended to those of you who do, it's a personal thing.) What would be great is to sell something useful, something genuinely helpful. But perhaps there's just no money in it.

It seems that the only way to survive is to find someone a little more gullible and naive than myself (he he, a tough call I think!) and rip them off. There has to be a better way.

For the record, along the way I've explored...

    dropshipping - overpriced products
Amazon and eBay - excessive fees combined with very low margins
sales via own website - Adwords or link building eats up the funds
affiliate sales (a variety of companies)
    GDI
Pay per Play (not fully live yet?)
Traffic exchanges - we look at ads we don't want to view so that others have to look at ours. Sad isn't it? Took me a while to figure it out...
Cash for clicks - are they serious???
Advertising/Pop unders - not one response in 10K
    Google Ads Free
    Sitebuilder Elite
    iContent Robot
    Keyword Elite
    SEO Elite
    Affiliate Elite

To be fair, I think the last three are OK - at least you get something for your money. I'm embarassed to admit that I was also taken in by the Marl Stock Trading Robot. In fact I was set to market that until I realised that this was another scam. These are just the ones that came immediately to mind - no doubt there are more...

Phew. What a relief to get that off my chest. Those of you who made it to the end of my tirade, thanks for bearing with me.

If you do know of any worthwhile affiliate products, please tip me off... but don't... please.... don't try to sell me anything ;)

I can feel your pain mate.

am on the same boat, however in the past I sold my ebooks for about $20K but now a days I am surviving on google adsense for only 300-400 per month which hardly covers my domain and web hositng cost.

honeslty, I dont have any method that Ican share, but I am trying my best to find out something, I a mrying cookie stuffing in next 3-4 days, lets see if there is any luck or anything REAL in that..

am also in the same situation, where every thread looks fake to me, or everytime I read an ebook or report they are alwasy promoting their own website, for example if someone is telling you about how efective is "article writing", then they will be promoting their own services like saying "write you own article, or if you are not good in article writing, use XXX.com they are very good at writing, I have used them", then they will tell you which service is good for submitting articles to many directories and again promote their own website..

    this is all shit...
am also trying to find something..

lets hope we can find something, but here at BHW, I have found TONS of useful information and some reall GOOD contributing members, so we just have to take our first step.. follow me, goto "Mmoney Making" forum, read any topc with most replies, and APPLY that method NOW, dont look for anything else, I am sure you will find yourself getting started..

    my 2 cents :(

Some of the items you have listed are very useful tools, and I begin to think that you are a) not applying them or b) not fully understanding how to apply them.

Software such as keyword elite, and seo elite (which I no longer use either, but did at one point) aren't by themselves going to make you any money. However, they work well for improving your ability to make money.

Basically, you need something to sell, and someone to sell it too. Whether it be ad space, traffic, clicks, installs, some sort of affiliate product, leads, etc...it's still just something to sell and someone to buy. I'll let more qualified people here give you specifics, but in a nutshell what do you have to sell, and who can you find to buy it.

It doesn't need to be complicated...can you write? Sell content ($3 per article maybe). Can you make graphics, sell those...they sky's the limit really.

    What's wrong with Marl?
I'm just curious. I tried their newsletter but hadn't a chance to invest.

Yeah man, there are better ways... Some of the methods you're listing do work, I can attest to at least ebay/amazon/drop-shipping/opt-ins/ppc/ecommerce and you have some of those listed.

Here is my suggestion. Pick 1 and focus only on this one thing with all your effort. I know that is hard cause I've been where you are. You want to take advantage of everything, but you need to fail a lot in the methods to start to understand it. You know, trial and error that kind of thing. Anyway i hear you, but what you have here is amazing, just read. I spend like 4 hours a day reading this shit cause I need to.

Best of luck and cheers, don't be depressed

Ur right man, if you want to keep up with the changes you have to read and understand what is going on in the marketing community....

I try to read about 2 or 3 books a day just to brainstorm new ideas and how I can combine them into my income. It helps out alot. But i can tell you this Internet marketing is not a quick fix, it is sometimes that can change very quickly with out you even knowing about it. Plus it is a learning process.

Just keep you head up, dont let it get you down, and DONT be afraid to ask for help. There are tons of people on BHW that is willing to help.

    Good Luck Fellow Black Hater,
    Dustin

P.s. if you ever need anything just PM me and I will be glad to help.

From what I have been able to piece together, Marl works if you have the nerves for pump and dump. It artificially inflates a stock price by making a suggestion and all the newsletter subscribers buy it right at that time. Stock goes up. Then they dump it.

There's some window dressing to make it look legit like keeping recommended stocks to a feasible profile. I think Marl even makes a few calculated "mistakes" per month to keep the authorities off its tail and they try to keep it low key.

I read one place that the Marl was almost identical to a previous poker playing robot system, Poker Bobby.

If you want to sell this, sell it to gamblers in debt. That is your strongest niche. Stress the sure-bet pump and dump angle without using those terms and without endorsing it, since that is mucho illegal.

Also be aware that human nature never changes. After a while, the owners might get too tempted to buy up a lot of stock before Marl makes his recommendation and the whole thing will go kablooey if Marl is being watched (which he probably is given the attention he generated on Clickbank). Not good to be on board at such a time.

If you believe you can jump off in time or play it so the mud doesn't fly at you, there are a lot of desperate gamblers out there. I am still thinking about this one myself...

What are your skills? Honestly if you work 8 hours a day and put stuff online after a month of 8 hour days you should have 240 hours of shit you've done online. If you cant earn $5-10 an hour off that you are doing it wrong. Ask people for help, write down what you do for an hour and ask whats wrong with it.

Thanks all for your many and varied responses. It's been encouraging just to read them.

To respond to some of the comments... I have come a long way in a relatively short time. All the things I list have been attempted since about August last year. I came into this knowing nothing (it shows...) and have learnt a tremendous amount. I've a pretty solid understanding of white hat SEO and an atractive commercial site - but it is still taking too long to get properly visible.

Maxell - I guess we should keep in touch if we're in the same boat. I promise to tip you off if I find anything worth having, and perhaps you'll do the same for me. As for all the scams - the awful thing is that as you become increasingly desperate you are more and more easily conned because you so WANT to believe :(

Fragin - have applied the principles. Note that I commented that the Bryxen software was good. I had massive sales on Amazon in the run-up to Christmas - worked harder than I have ever done in my entire life. I actually went 4 days without sleep at one point. I did not write or send a single Christmas card. And for what? When the dust settled in January, when the bills were paid there was very little left. That was when I decided to work much harder on my own site in the hope that by next Christmas I could do the same thing but without the fees.

Dropstars - PPI - haven't come across that one. Sounds a bit too techie for me but will check it out.

    CoolAdvisor - http://skeltoac.com/2007/11/27/marl-the-stock-robot-scam/

Whiskers - yeah - here you may have a point. In my efforts to achieve SOMETHING I think I am probably too easily distracted from the task in hand. Dilute your efforts too far and what do you get. Must be more disciplined...

Dustin, I especially liked your quote, "Failure is not an option!"
Gene Kranz - Apollo 13's Legendary Flight Director. No indeed it isn't. It just feels kinda inevitable right now ;) Will check out your link. "P.s. if you ever need anything just PM me and I will be glad to help" Send me money :D Or at least a share in the golden goose :D

Stumickel - I don't want to take advantage of deperate people coz I'm there myself. Have just invested heavily in the first stock pick. Am currently down but have hope of recovering as the prices continue to fluctuate. Marl is still pumping this one (Runu - Rudy Nutrition in case you want to have a look.)

Bizcredit - I could probably write. (I'm an ex-language teacher.) The grammar and punctuation in many articles drives me potty, but I'm probably the only one to notice ;) And my style is probably way too stuffy for the interent. Worth following up tho... but can you LIVE on it?

It would be handy to find a good niche affiliate product, but I'm figuring that they are probably not in the Clickbank/CommissionJunction/PayDotCom repertoire - because they would very quickly not be niches any more.

Thanks again to you all - I'll keep reading the posts and maybe something will turn up.

I'm in a similar situation. I've tried a lot of these methods and I'm not making that much profit out of them. Currently doing about 4 - 5 methods of making money online and feel that I am overwhelmed.

That's also part of the problem: there's just literally too much information out there and you can get stuck on only reading and never doing (ie. analysis paralysis).

Another problem: Finding the converting products or offers. It's the difference between losing money and making huge profits. I drove 1000's of hits to one of my aff product pages and *zero* conversions resulted. I know some who do 1 in 30, just imagine how profitable that could be.

The best advice, perhaps, is to avoid black hat techniques and actually create a product/service that is NOT in the internet marketing field. but DO YOUR HOMEWORK. That means; spend time researching, looking at competitors, using Affiliate Elite to track your competitors, see if there are any niches within your market that there is a demand for. And you have to find a niche where people actually BUY stuff.

Rip off your competitors. Take their ideas and research. Make it your own.
then STICK to it. Test. Test. Test. Improve.

Don't jump onto all "opportunities" that come along. They won't help. Instead; USE what you have learned, apply it. take advantage of those resources you have at your disposal.

Much of the resources spent on eBooks and software can be used on eLance to get someone to do the work for you.

Set up a list over activities that MAKE you money. Focus on those. Don't spend hours surfing forums for a gold mine. Set aside three hours each day where you do NOTHING but activities that make you money. (MARKETING MARKETING MARKETING). Submit articles, create hubpages, squeedo lenses. Create something useful. And link it all back to your Money Making Site / Product / Service / Whatever.

    BUT STICK TO IT.
Because in the end, if you hold on to your dream and work consistently towards it you will get results.

    COLLABORATE
Find someone to share your passion with. Someone you trust, and that might see the value in what you propose. Work together. It is the same as working out with someone. Keeps you motivated. Also, someone is available to mirror your ideas and thoughts.

Don't span out your attention! Stick to one thing at a time. That's how your mind work. If to much happens at once, you get frustrated, disoriented..

And put ALL your efforts into one strategy.

That's the problem-- people trying to do multiple methods at one time. But there will always be an audience to 'play' to so why spread yourself thin? Ya know when i read the Easy Wordpress System v 1, I heard what everyone has told and said for awhile: block everything else out and concentrate only on this effort and your site this one time until you are finished. I myself am guilty of doing multiple projects at one time (i still have a default template on my gaming site, my hobby site hasn't been updated in almost a year, one of my blogs is lacking a header so you really don't know what the name of the site is unless you look at the web bar, two of my mfa networks are getting traffic from the serps but i have not promoted them to get more and have not monetnized them well, i have 2 'side' businesses that i haven't got fully up and operational,............on and on and on!), but I do know the rewards of actually completing something. It's a shame I don't learn from those rewards, but I do think it is great to focus on one thing at a time. Yes, diversify your projects, but do one project at time so then all you have to multi-task is how to make them BETTER.
