Hey,

Maybe my standards are a little too high, maybe I'm just the issue here.... Who knows

So I need help !

Could you all define what "Uniqueness" in graphic design/logo making means to you?

What would you define as being Unique, would it be just a colour change, rotation change, cut patch chopped up? Redrawn slightly different????

Thanks !!!

I'd say it is a mix of them all, as long as it creates a long lasting memory or wow factor. Think about Nike logo...anybody could do it, it ain't rocket science but definitely it is unique.

That sound like me playing with pixlr when I am doing a meme :anyway:

And that is far away from calling it unique. :p

And about your other question. I'd say unique is something that you can't find an equal for or even a similar one.

It's all subjective. At the end, only really matters what the client wants. You can offer insight and advice, but their decision ultimately. If you're creating something for yourself, then go with something that reinforces your brand message.

It's very straight-forward according to the dictionary :anyway:

A logo is unique, to me, when it is unlike any other logo or brand identity. It's doesn't matter if that is by means of colour, shape or another attribute. A unique logo tells you about the company or entity you're dealing with without the need for text - such as with Nike or McD's - It will become more unique the stronger the brand identity is, in that others may want to imitate or copy it but its' uniqueness makes it stand out in the crowd to be recognised for the brand or entity it is.

I believe the uniqueness of a logo depends on the brand specificity. To be unique in graphic design means a super technical aspect, perfect aspect ratio/resolution/clarity, and something specific about the logo that is relevant to the niche/website category.

Like, a pets website/blog logo having 1 pet or two as the letters of the logo, with light/calm colors. Crappy example, but I think you get where I'm going with specificity.

The problem is that the type of uniqueness you aim for is easily recognized, but is very hard to be explained. At least for me.

I want to know your opinion and definition not googles :p
Fine, I'll tell you my opinion. Actually, a 'unique' graphic design or unique anything is subjective and it very much depends. What is the graphic used for? What's the theme? What's the tone (ie professional/business, personal, etc)? So, there are many things that make a design unique.

Sometimes a black and white design might be unique if it's sharp, has motion and is well done. The depth is specifically interesting and draws attention.

In other cases, a combination of elements combined into 1 simple but well design graphic/logo

The bottom line is it very much depends on the context and the story behind the logo and the business or the purpose. "Unique" is extremely subjective as it relies on personal taste and preferences. What's unique to me might be trash to you and vice versa.
