I got hit Dec 20 and lost all traffic + impressions on multiple sites. Trying to pinpoint the issue and similarities with the sites are:
- Same niche
- Wordpress
- Same theme (kadence)
- A lot of same plugins
- AI content (high quality, using it on other sites without issues - and it's ranking)
- Low DA domains mostly
- Quite new sites (under 1 year)

But then again, I have other sites using the same theme, plugins, content, low da and new domains - and those are either ranking fine or at least not penalized.

It could be that just these sites got flagged and others not for some reason, but still it's quite hard to analyze and pinpoint the issue.

Today I received 2 independent news about recovery after 20 Dec. Anyone else recovered? If so, what country?
 
yes, it happens. updates start to take down traffic for some sites but take up for others. But these last 3 updates hit most of the sites. more precisely it hits low-value content sites. to recover I will suggest you to acquire some good backlinks from relevant sites, optimize your content properly, and do semantic SEO. That's it. wait and see what happens in the next update.
 
I changed the domain and after 30-40 days, the new one also got hit. Google is totally circus now.

Best to get a new domain , that’s what helped me recover in 1 month . New domain + new host

Yes, many sites were hit—likely due to EEAT issues, AI/thin content, or spammy backlinks; focus on improving content quality, internal linking, and trust signals to recover.

I also got Adsense approval under 4 days as a topping for my good behavior *lol*
 
You are definitely not alone. The December 2024 Spam Update was a massive cleanup operation, and the targeted drops on inner pages suggest a focus on Scaled Content Abuse and overall site quality signals.
Google explicitly said this update wasn't about link spam, so the issue likely relates to the utility or originality of your mass-produced content. The algorithm is now hyper-sensitive to pages that lack genuine E-E-A-T and seem to exist purely to capture long-tail search traffic. You need to aggressively audit the losing pages, prune any low-value content, and add substantial human expertise to the remaining money pages.
