I bought 10 of their packages (for $1,390 USD) and today I got an email that said if I dont renew for 1,390 within 7 days I loose my entire captcha balance. I have over 900k captchas left. This strikes me as extortion, blackmail and is not in there TOS (I checked it says you lose captchas after 270 days not 30.)

Has anyone had a similar experience with them? I thought they were the best which is why I invested that money. I have already emailed their support but I am pretty furious about this.

Why would you put $1390 all in at once? That's asking for trouble whoever you use. But really, what DBC is doing seems really shady. It won't help them as you've made it public now, and might make people a lot more hesitant to pay them anything. Contact them and keep us updated on the thread.

It was actually a typo, I didnt realize I did it until I got the threatening email this morning. They are definitely a well known and well respected company so I was shocked when I got the email. Here is a direct quote from there page at http://www.deathbycaptcha.com/user/terms-of-service:

CAPTCHA credits acquired through http://www.deathbycaptcha.com/user/order will expire after 270 days of purchase.

Will do. I will post the email shortly. I love how i never got emails like that when I only purchased 139 dollars worth of credit.

I have never had a problem with them before this. I will say it is the weekend so there support is not online and I am guessing this is some kind of mis-understanding but the email sounds threatening. As soon as I am done hashing out an issue I am having with something I will post it.

The ToS sounds reasonable, i.e. use Captcha credits within 9 months (other services like Copyscape have something similar), but the threatening email does not. I suggest you contact BHW member 'Gr33nHat' who is a Customer Service Rep for DeathByCaptcha, and update this thread with the results:

Just open a dispute and get back your money, they are not following their policy that was written.

I am not sure you can do that with avangate. It is not paypal but I can look into it. I am waiting to hear back from DBC. Again it is the weekend and I only contacted them 2 hours ago. I also pm'ed Gr33n as Danny suggested

They've possibly used a template e-mail and forgot to remove that part. Most services (hosting, proxies, etc) are on a monthly basis thing.

Have you even contacted DBC before making this thread??

EDIT: Okay i see you contacted them 2 hours ago. Why make this thread that's only going to give them bad rep if it turns out to be just a simple mistake?

It's a business. We all make mistakes and I feel the best way to handle it is to contact them, alert the community about it & ask for guidance (for example Danny;s suggestion to contact Gr33n who I would not know works for them without it). Also, while you maybe wealthy, $1000 possibly lost is sizable enough for me to take action on it.

That's crazy. You have to use your credits in 1 month or they will expire? WTF is point of offering 10,000 captchas if people don't have enough time to use them.

Never had this problem before & I have been using them almost a year. Still waiting to hear from them & giving them the benefit of the doubt that it's some kind of mistake. There terms of service of 270 days is fair. However the email implies something entirely different.

So you basically bought 1 million captchas and they want to use in less than 1 month, according to their email? Reminds me of the movie Brewster's Millions.
