Dealing With Spammy Backlink Attacks

Hi All! I have a question I'd love some input on from the community.

I have a client who is reporting thousands of 404s in Google Search console every day. The site is ~8k pages (across all subdomains)

When spot-checking the referring page, I keep coming across foreign domains (the site is US-based).

The site is having indexing issues and I am suspecting this is playing a factor.

Any thoughts on how to handle this?

So it looks like each page is receiving a link from a unique domain.
 
Is there a service that automatically detects new spam links and creates a disavow file from them?
 
If those 404s are from spammy backlinks, it's essential to compile a disavow file and submit it to Google's disavow tool. But first, ensure these backlinks are the real cause of the 404s. Sometimes it’s just a site structure issue, especially with that many pages. Monitor your backlink profile regularly with tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush.
 
So these links aren't showing in Ahrefs - my guess is they are just single page subdomains someone is submitting to Google with links to our site. I'm not as concerned about the negative impacts of spammy links on my rankings per-say; I am worried about how much crawl-budget is being used on 404s. So in this case, disavowing does nothing to solve my main concern, I believe.

This is a new site on an old domain that we recently launched, so maybe this isn't an issue/anything I can do about. Just getting antsy to see my indexation go up.
 
Looks like a referral spam to me. You may try installing 410 plugin for wp then upload a CSV file containing the URLs.

Yeah - its definitely referral spam. Is there any benefit to throwing a 410 over a 404. My understanding is that a 410 is used when a page used to exist that no longer exists while a 404 is page does not exist (which is what I think makes sense in my situation).

Also, when you say "then upload a CSV file containing the URLs" are you referring to uploading them to a disavow? Or are you saying that this tool accepts specific pages to mark as 410s?

410 means that the page is gone and is not likely to be there in the future and the search engine should deindex the link. While 404, the page isn’t gone permanently. It can appear when a page is temporarily down or inaccessible.

The plugin accepts the pages to mark as 410s.

Not sure if that Referring Page even real, the value can be modified by some kind of parameter tampering application, both you and this site could be a victim imho
