Dealing with competition

I handle my own company website and a very specialised technology related product range. I don't have much competition at all, however .... I have one who is very well established and seem to have a billion reviews all over google. They beat me on all majoy keywords.

It's early days yet and I have alot more work to do. But, I'm still a noob and don't want to be wasting time on the wrong things.

Does anybody have any tips on improving my site ranking and dealing with my competition ?
