Hello:
Not that long ago, I was able to get YouTube to deactivate and reassign some user names for myself plus some famous musicians I know - I used cited common law trademark as the reason for handing it over (although they cited user inactivity for handing over the names at that time). Lately, things seemed to have changed for the worse and they REALLY don't give a damn.
Now, their policy is not to get involved with trademark ownership (unless it's someone blatantly misrepresenting themselves as the owner of the mark). Plus, it's harder than ever to find an email address anywhere to address user name issues.
Is there anyone else out there trying to get some inactive user names handed over? Do you have direct contact info?
