Hello Blackhatworld. I promised when my site first went Live I was going to post updates on the site once a month. The time of this post is 18:25pm.
The day is almost over but not quite yet. My website launched today with almost full capabilities. Just need to add ability to login with facebook/twitter etc.
My website basically has a voting system of hearts and two sections. New/Hot. Hot posts with certain amount of hearts go to front page and new posts go to the new section. Users can sign up and submit posts which I monitor. So far only 5 users. Myself, two friends and two sign ups.
This is a wordpress site without a fully purchased licensed theme. I have being using my facebook pages to advertise some funny pictures to get traffic.
So far it's going okay for the first day I guess. 7,200 visits so far today. Most likely 10,000 by the end of day one. All from facebook.

I was very disappointed with the earnings tho. It worried me actually. I wondered if they will improve or will remain that low.

I don't know but hopefully it isn't always this bad. The audience of the pages are USA, UK, CANADA etc.
My advertisements are rich media ones if this is a factor and there is two. One on homepage below logo and one under and above content posts.

    This is the front page.

This is the content when clicked.

I just hope this improves over time and the site becomes bigger and better and as big as sites like 9gag.

I have around $500 left to invest this month.
Anyone with advice how to stretch my money or any help to get this site out there and bigger and better.
Please comment or message me. All the help right now is needed.
I hope in 1 month time I can say. BHW I did it! After never believing in myself and eventually trying I did it!
I'm not a hopeless screw up that would make nothing of his life like everyone said! :)

    Thanks so much.
    Love Always.
    -PNightShade.

I have one tip for you.
If you use facebook traffic from big fan pages, check that your server can handle the amounts of the traffic, becouse when you send the traffic from facebook, they comes in the first 10-20 minutes so you need a server that can handle with it.

I worked on my site 1 mo and i didn't understand why i have only 15k a day (using 3 pages with 100k fans) after i found a batter VPS, i got 25-30 uni per day.
    Good luck!

    Hi,

I'm very interested to see how this goes. I have a similar site coded from scratch that posts 5 hand picked videos a day. The monetisation aspect seems quite tricky. Adsense hasn't earned well for me at all so I am experimenting with affiliate offers and using custom made adverts that look part of my site to try and drive traffic. I haven't cracked it yet. I am still optimistic however, these sites have the potential to generate huge traffic, there's got to be a way to pull a decent income from them.

One philosophy I'm sticking to is that the CTR and conversions are probably always going to be low, so therefore it is important that the conversions you do get are monetised well, rather than getting peanuts for other people paying to advertise on your site, put in the effort/time to find something you can sell for much larger profits, preferably sell something that will bring in recurring income.

What I'd like to ask you is how you grew your facebook pages? To be able to drive 7,000 pageviews in a day is pretty impressive, to get that many visitors I normally have to pay for the traffic. PM me, perhaps we can share some tips and advice.

I'll add to this by saying that I've been able to handle a lot of traffic with a small VPS from linode (and this is with streaming video too) by using nginx rather than apache and nginx's own frontend caching.

Your RPM is similar to some of my large humour sites (excluding direct ad sells, and other brand related products I sell). My site is laid out differently (jokes, not pictures) but your CTR isn't too bad considering the niche and the fact your traffic is from Facebook.

You can monetize with direct ad sells or you can try sell ads placements on buysellads dot com and you will get more money

Would sites like 9gag have stats like this.
How exactly do I make more money tho?
5,000 views for targeted views for only £1.80 seems really harsh lol

How can I get more people to see my site besides facebook?
Is it expensive to SEO for these sites?

To do that I think I need to wait until my site is getting more viewers.

Have you tried by just using text link ads. Disable the rich media ads for a day and let us know how it fares..The text ads usually have a high CTR..People are often blinded by those banners.

Nice to know that 0.16% CTR is considered 'not too bad'. My custom advert are currently getting about 0.33% CTR, pretty sure I can do better than that with a bit of tweaking.

In a niche like humour it's not bad. I've seen better, though. It also depends on traffic sources.

9gag would make more. They are a much bigger site so have significantly more leverage over advertisers, many of whom would go direct. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to compete with them on that front as your site doesn't have enough traffic. My site gets around 100k UVs a day and even that's not easy to sell direct ads in. Humour in general is a hard niche to monetize, unfortunately.

Try a mixture of text and rich media and let google's algo determine which performs best for your site. Also try dropping the small banner under your image and instead place a 300x250 ad block at the top of your right column. this will ensure all your ads are in the top fold. In general 300x250 units perform better that 250x250 units.

Before i started optimizing my site for adsense, my CTR was crap. After a week or 2 of fine tuning, this is where im at:

Did you use WP theme? which theme you are using?
So far I know adsense won't accept your site for many days.

How do you know when your site is accepted?
Why is it showing my views and payout?

The theme is called Me Gusta!

In my experience these types of sites are a lot harder to drive traffic to than you'd expect and difficult to monetize. I'm NOT trying to discourage you OP and I wish you good luck. Please keep us updated.

Well also keep in mind that a bunch of people looking at sites like this, and people on facebook are gonna be a lot of teens or early 20's...as in still in college or living at home with mommy and daddy. Not many of them are gonna be looking to buy a couch in other words. I dont know if you can control which ads are where but if so keep in mind your traffics age range and what they would be looking to get.

I'm considering moving into this niche, I've heard adsense dont like the ''meme'' type sites with minimal text, are you placing any text other then a title to your pics? Or is what i have read a bunch of bull and those people were probably doing something else wrong?
