How might one go about reducing another site's google rank? I'm not interested in techniques which raise the rank of my site above the competitor, but techniques that would lower the rank of my competitor. Two thoughts:

    - Paid links are purchased to the competitor's site, a practice which Google frowns upon. I then report these paid links (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66736), which Google then acts upon.

    - A whole lot of spammy links are generated for the competitor, such at link farms. Not only will Google discount these links, but perhaps they punish a bit for them as well?

    Your thoughts and other ideas?

I'm with you on this. I'd much rather spend my time working on the success of my own projects. No need to get nasty. Besides, you could be messing with someones livelihood, which kinda sucks.

All that will do it take the site offline for a few days, that is not going to reduce their rank at all. The worst case scenario would be an attack that takes the server down for that 1-3 day period. If the spiders/bots roll around that same time and they do not find the site it will hurt their rankings. However, once the site is back online and the spiders/bots hit it again, it will gain it's rank back. DDOS attack won't do shit to truly effect someone's ranking, and neither will buying links to point to their site, buying paid reviews that point to that site. Anyone can easily go out and purchase a shitload of links that point to a competitor, google frowns upon buying paid links and will hit the site that is selling the links.

Can't see how a basic discussion about DDOS and its effects on a website's rankings can be against rules of a blackhat forum. Enlighten me por favor?

We are a BlackHat Marketing forum, we don't condone the use of hacking or attacking other peoples sites here. This type of talk attracts the wrong crowd, which we don't want here.

Besides what HaRRo wrote, you people can't make it on your own and are so incompetent that you believe the only way that you CAN make it is to fuck with your competition, your are really pretty pitiful.

All of you who advocated for this kind of activity are off my island and I have a long memory.

I seriously didn't see a problem with talking about DDOS in a blackhat forum and even did a quick search through rules with the keyword "ddos" before posting, but whatever.. Also HaRRo, just fyi, the rules thread in forum does not contain anything about hacking, http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/member-downloads/announcements.html - I'm guessing it hasn't been updated for a while. You might wanna fix that.

Oh btw, although I could care less about being off your island Uptownbulker, just fyi, I've never done it myself, I have seen it being done though.
