Apologies if this has been shared before - it's a free report, so don't think I'm stepping on anyone's toes.

This is the link to the whole report:

If you don't want to read the whole thing (takes 2 minutes - 5 page report), here's the gist:

Google thinks that a lower bounce rate means that the site must have good content because people are clicking to get deeper into the site. The lower your bounce rate, the higher Google will rank you.

How to fix the problem?

Take your home page (the index.html page) and copy the page (making an exact duplicate) and name it index2.html.
Use a drop down (also called a fly-in) email opt-in box. Replace the link that said ?Close Window? from it?s JavaScript (that closed the drop down box), to a hyper-link directed to the index2.html page.

Now when the visitor see?s the fly-in box, they will click the ?close window? button or fill out the form you have in the fly-in box. Both actions will take them to the next page (in this example index2.html).

So instead of simply closing the box, it will actually load a new page. It will look the same to the visitor, but now instead of simply closing the box, they are moving deeper into the site. By going to a new page, there is no bounce penalty from Google.

....apparently this little trick increases traffic from Google substantially. I'm gonna give it a try!

Enjoy! :)

everything is "substantial" or has "huge potential" and worth "$xx,xxx a year!" or something,

worth a try tho - no harm in giving it ago!

visitors might notice the load though.

But does this mean that a well thought out blog structure could make a difference in a little or a lot of traffic?

might be worth a shot!

This is an interesting concept; I've never really connected bounce rate to Google status, but it's worth looking into; does anyone else have more information?
