    Hello guys,

I was wondering if shortening a URL will count as a backlink. I notice that sites using non-english urls turn out some crazy long urls when copy and pasted on blogs, social bookmarks, and etc, so I was thinking if shortening the url to make it more presentable will still transfer some juice.

    Cory,

Matt Cutts speaks to this question in the link below. URL shorteners do in fact pass pagerank because its essentially a redirect. As long as you are using a reputable service, you should be fine.

That being true, there is also this article where they talk about PR being diluted whether someone is following a redirect or just a regular link (both dilute PR the same). So the question is, would you receive more PR if you just pasted the original URL as opposed to covering it with a shortener first?

    Hope that helps,
