So yesterday and today my ads (AdSense) are shown 345 times in total so far. The problem is, literally nobody clicked on the ads. I heard a CTR of 0.5% - 1% is good, but with 345 impressions I have a CTR of literally 0%.... Could someone please take a look on my website and see if you can find any reasons for this? Maybe my ad placement is just wrong?

Leave a reply here if you're willing to take a (quick) look on my website and I'll send you the link.

    Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have some kind of analytics tool deployed (i.e. google analysis) take a look at that. Where is your traffic from? How long does your visitors spend on your site? How many pages do they view per session? If your visitors only stay on your page for a very small amount of time either your content is not engaging enough to keep people interested or your visitors might simply be bots.

I've had a very thin adsense site that got around 700 - 800 visitors/month but only 2 clicks. When I looked at my analytics I'd discovered that almost all of my traffic was from Russia and that the average time spend on my site was something ridiculously low (like under 10 seconds). Obviously, I had to conclude that most of my traffic was simply bots from somewhere.

Thanks for your answer, I've Google Analytics deployed. My traffic is ~80% USA traffic, average time spend on website is about 30 seconds. I'm pretty sure it's all real since my traffic is coming from Reddit/FB.

I PM'd you my response, but I'm pasting it here (I read over it again to make sure nothing was in it to ID your site) so others can learn from my response as well.

You clearly tried to place the ads in unobtrusive areas, the problem with this is that it makes the ads almost invisible. Here are some ideas:

People read in a "F" shape. Here's an example:

Basically, the lower right hand side of a page is invisible.

You can move your sidebar to the left side, and that might help improve your clicks, perhaps move your ad to the top of the sidebar as well. You can also use a smaller ad unit at the top of the sidebar if you want it to be less intrusive.

You can also create a text link ad unit skyscraper and try to style it so that it looks kind of like nav links (but don't put any text that looks like it's trying to fool anyone).

You might also want to use a more intrusive ad in the content. One that always did well for me was putting the 336x280 or 300x250 at the top of the article aligned left. It looked uglier than heck, but made so much money.

I also, surprisingly, had a lot of success with one of those same ad units (336x280 or 300x250) after the text of my article. Also, I'm not sure if Google has opened this up to everyone or not, but I was one of the beta testers for their Matched Content native ads. Those things are quite possibly one of the best converters for me, and they look amazing. They also suggest your content as well, so you can ditch the suggested content plugin on your site. Learn more about those here: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/6111336?hl=en

I hope some of these tips have helped :)

Wow, thank you very much for your tips, very useful! I have never thought of the things you just explained to me, I'll definitely implement all your tips!

If you're curious, I'll update you in a couple days and tell you how much $$$ (more) I've made after using your tips:)

I expected at least 1-3 clicks from these 345 ad impressions (399 now, still no clicks), since everybody is saying that a CTR of 0.33% - 1% is the average... That's why I was wondering what's wrong. And I'm not crying lmao just asking.
