So im having trouble figuring out how to get wp-o-matic posting through a cron jobs. I'm using hostgator web hosting and I'm plugging in the long cron command: */20 * * * * /usr/bin/curl http://xeroslf.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cron.php?code=2113e3g2 into cron jobs via the hostgator cpanel. However when I set the times to make the job run every minute it doesnt update the rss feed on my website. Can someone explain to me what might be going wrong, and also could someone give me a run through of how setting up the times in the advanced cron jobs tab works, i.e. the square boxes that have the * in them. Thanks a lot

So your cron runs fine if you leave it at the default interval?

I'm kind of puzzled as to why you would want to run wpomatic every 1 min. If you've got hostgator shared hosting, you may be asking to have your account suspended by doing this.

Plus, doesn't wpomatic only pulls rss entries of new posts? So if the feed you are scraping has not been updated since the last time you fetched it, wpomatic will have no new posts to add to your blog.

A far as the asterisks, wiki has a pretty good diagram of what they mean. Once you can get your head wrapped around this, cron jobs are easy.

just a quick note - if you try to milk an RSS feed too often, you will get your IP banned on that feed. this happens especially with news feeds (google, yahoo etc) for too many reasons to enumerate them here....

I was just setting it at 1 minute to see if it even works, so i wouldnt have to wait 3 hours to see whether my cron job was running or not lol

The easiest thing to do is just not use WP-O-Matic. There are lots of better tools, some of them are free -- like Feed Wordpress (at the wordpress plugin repository) or if you just want to schedule and upload PLR articles, zipposter (on here in the download section) is da bomb.

Use wget, but you need to talk to Hostgator support and have them add you to the "get" list i beleive. Tell them you are using WPomatic and you set up the cron to run and you need to be added. All that needs to be done.
