I've been creating a high-pr network to provide a lot of quality content on high-pr pages intertwined with contextual backlinks to my money site.

Over the weekend I interlinked a few of them, thinking it would magnify the results I have been seeing but instead my rankings dropped about 12 spots, starting on page 2 (Very competitive KW).

I reverted my changes to hopefully see my rankings return to where they were.

The question is - should I have waited to see if it was a G* dance or is what I did a no-no?

**They were not linked in a perfect wheel, it was done at random.

It was really stupid to interlink the sites.. You invited Google to spank you.!

It wasn't a G dance, buy your site will probably be de-indexed if you keep them linked for a long time..

Thank you for your input. I immediately took down the interlinking and my rankings returned the next day - lesson learned!

Are they hosted on different hosts with different C classes? Never interlink any of your sites.

Yeah, your sites could be dead now that you interlinked them... I'm not sure that they will recover now that Google has flagged them though you might luck out.

Not related in my opinion. Although it may eventually be, or not be, a good thing to do ... I don't think that interlinking a tier 1 would result in SERP movements in a day or two. Google has to evaluate the links between the tier 1 to establish a difference there, and then evaluate the outgoing links as being less (or more) effective to your money site ... that doesn't happen on-the-fly. They don't rescan those pages daily anyways, it could be a week or more before Google even knows you did the changes.

Its usually a bad idea to try to piece together cause-and-effect with Google with a time gap of a day or two. Typically if you go up or down, its because of something you did or not do a week or a month ago.

My sites were all hosted with SEO hosting utilizing different class-c IPs along with unique nameservers etc. I agree that it typically takes longer to have changes reflected in the SERPs but I didn't fluff what I said above. I was #12 for a very competitive keyword. My page is a PR4 and within 24 hours of interlinking my personal PR network, my ranks jumped to #23. Within 24 hours I removed the interlink and 12 hours later my ranking returned.

Coincidence? I agree, it could be. But the general consensus here seems to be that it's not a good idea.

    Cheers!
