I have been mulling around with this idea for a long time and I think I am about ready to get serious about it. A few years ago I created a the first steps to this and actually made around 100 bucks. I had stopped working on it and forgot about. By the time I realized it had made that money it was already de hosted for non payment. Way back machine has most of the content so I may start there. I have been very busy at work but I basically waste every night and If I spent it building out this site I think it could be a real money maker. I think the content would be good enough that backlinks would not really even be required to rank well but who knows it has been awhile since I built out a site. I am going to try and start creating some content. I have been taking some pictures at work to use in the articles.

This coming week I am going to try and get a few things done that will help me in the future.

Get google drive set up on my phone so my pictures are easily transferred to my computer and then from there I can sort them into pictures to be used on this project.

Figure out what domain I want to go with.

Start writing content so when I get a website up it will be easy to fill it out and get it live. My goal for this week in one "article" completed.

If I can just stay with this I think there is great potential. I used to use googles keyword planner when researching keywords but it seems like they have changed it where it now just tries to get me to set up a ad campaign and I cant get the detailed info I use to get. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good keyword tool that shows the amount of searches per month? Thanks for reading and any advice

So I did some keyword research and I was blown away. Using the free keyword tool at https://serps.com/tools/keyword-research/ I found my main keyword I am targeting has 3600 searches and a cpc of 4.83 !!! This seems unbelievable to me! Anyone with experience ranking something up in the top 3 with statistics that looks like this? The value of the top 5 related terms in the keyword research tool shows the value being 25,000. Not sure exactly what that means but I am excited.

Hmm, check the competition of that CPC. It may have low competition, which means that no advertisers are bidding for that amount and you'll get NOTHING for your clicks.

things may have changed but the last time I had a version of this site live I got 2-4 bucks per click. Not sure if it is still that way but I will look into it. Do you have a good method to check competition of cpc?

I have no intentions to build a site and rank it in the construction niche, so you can share me the keyword for me to check. Completely your choice.

Ok have shared my niche :), While I do want to keep it under raps I plan on having very high quality content that I have learned over the last decade in my trade so hopefully sharing it with one BHW member wont sink me haha :)

Will check the CPC and advertiser comp and get back to you soon.

Today I created a wordpress site for my first web 2.0 Filled out some of the basic pages and created a 500 word article with a few links that linked out to authority players related to my niche. All of this work was done on the wordpress, I still dont actually have anything set up for the main page yet.

I have extended the article that was 500 words long to about 1400 words. I am planning on using this web 2.0 for a few of my projects I currently have going so I am using the quality over quantity method. I am wandering if I should register this as a separate domain and build it out or if using it as a web 2.0 will be about the same linkjuice? Seems like most people just create small spammy links from web 2.0s so I am wandering if I am wasting my time and if google would rather me have this as a stand alone site. Would love to here anyone's suggestions on this.

Its funny I spend more time checking to see if my new link is made now than ultimately I have spent on making it. I should instead just continue to plow content in. I may end up pulling some of the content off of this page and putting it somewhere else down the road. I am not sure how having a lot of content on a web 2.0 made to boost another site will work but can always use the content else where if I decide to.

Following along with this journey. Wishing you much success and luck.

Awesome thanks! was not sure if anyone was following but figure later when this is a huge success people will want to know how it unfolded!

Wish you the best of luck with your journey. What's funny is this exact success story was one of the first ones I ever read about. Some guy, a retired construction expert, had a site where he would show people how to build things. Loft conversions, sheds, extensions etc, and he was making big money with Adsense. Can't remember the site, this was years ago.

I'm following along as well as this is a very good niche and you can bank with it.

A few years ago I was promoting a CPA offer in the construction niche and without a ton of effort I made some very good money. I'm hoping you do the same!

So glad to hear both of these stories! I really appreciate you following and sharing with me. I know there is not much out there on a lot of this because i spent a lot of time looking myself when I was trying to learn some of this and I used a combination of what I could find and brute force learning the finer points of this trade. looking forward to banking now from sharing the knowledge. In the long term I think I will make some sort of e-book or app to sale for 9.99 or some other amount that is yet undecided might be a great idea.

I have continued to fill out my first article on my web 2.0 which has now passed 2000 words. I have heard that with all the new upgrades very long articles are ranking very well so I am using this as a bit of a test. In the long run if this does not rank well I may split it up into multiple articles but I am going to just keep pushing this one further for awhile. I am leaving the rest of the website more or less blank and unfinished right now as a further test. If this truly does start ranking at all I think it will prove that very long content truly is gold right now in the eyes of google.

I have my parents coming into town this week so for the rest of this I will probably just add more to this one article on this one web 2.0 and next week I will start writing content for my actual site which will take a lot more focus and time because it is of a technical nature and is much more important that it is done right.

My parents are leaving early in the morning and I have got nothing done this weekend but I did decide to bang out a little effort before I went to bed tonight. My wordpress site I created for this project got indexed but only the about page so far not the 2K+ article it has on it. I have added another article of about 850 words but it is incomplete and I will try and add some more content to that one in the future. Once again I have linked out to some super authority sites and some relevant sites that are not mine but are similar to what my site will look like when built. No links are built to properties I own yet but they will be in the future for sure.

I am almost sure I should be creating content for my money site since that is where the real value is but this property will ultimately help my local business as well so not all is lost.

I finished my second article on my web 2.0 at 2k words. The about page is still the only page indexed by google at this point. My goals for this next week are to get a domain registered and begin content creation for my money site. I

am very busy with my brick and mortar business that this how to is based on so it will be tough to find the time to get stuff done but hopefully I will be able to push ahead this week and get this gravy train rolling

Last night was my big night to get a lot of work done ......and there was a "High Pressure Gas leak" at a construction site a couple hundred feet from my house. I was forced to move my two infants and pregnant wife to a hotel for the night so instead of moving forward on this project I spent 150 dollars on lodging ... ugg.

Anyone following along think instead of long post on the wordpress site I should be creating multiple web 2.0 properties instead? I am wandering if the long articles are a waste on a wordpress site. I am about to take a break from it as a start creating my actual content for my how to site but would love to hear anyones advice on this if they have done any testing in the past.

After reading some more it seems like those post should prob be on a expired domain somewhere that has a lot of link juice but I have 0 experience looking for or registering those. Might have to get some experience.

When you say construction niche do you mean:
-construction products like hammers or saw blades
-advertising FOR construction companies
-construction how to advice like home remodeling that will be monetized by membership or ads

We do PR for big construction firms is why I ask. With regards to content vs 2.0's it will depend on your answer to the above question. If you have a product to advertise, it may have low comp so 2.0's will help you rank faster than organic search which could take 2-6 months. I am a fan of content, having written 10,000 words in one day of highly technical content a week ago, and a 60,000 word book in 30 days.

You should look at content as being an asset that will bear fruit (traffic) for years to come. I was just telling a client today, his competitors for a select chosen keyword group have ranked for years for those keywords getting free traffic every year. You could also look at content as being an annuity, there's a solid payout over time. 2.0's are already at a disadvantage because:
-you don't own the site
-using 2.0's can be abused
-competition can flag your 2.0's
Content is more a long term strategy imo. Linking to the content with 2.0's is the best of both worlds, but if I had to choose one it's definitely content.
