Is this a good or bad way to direct traffic?

I have a video streaming website which is based on streaming only 1 show. I created a facebook fanpage for it and it has about 300 members now. I think it's a good way to get traffic to return to your site, but it depends on what topic your site has.

I have a fanpage for my business as well (just started), its kind of a hip thing to do nowadays and also a great way to spread the words out. Who knows? One person "like" it and it might go viral to his/her friends and then his/her friends' friends. You should then keep the fanpage alive as well, not the spammy way but alive. With updates and stuff.

Then again the question of able to get direct traffic or not depend on your "friends" and whether your content is interesting.

You are not gonna get conversion like you will get from search engine results but yes it's a very good source of traffic and creating brand awareness...
