    Hi everyone,
I would like to know if you guys know how to:

    1. Create a website that will feature daily deals from various merchants (PCs, cell phones, electronics, camera,, you name it)

    2. There should be a backend management interface to add, delete deals etc

    3. The admin should be able to add affiliate links to the urls going out to the merchants' product

    4. There are lot of examples of these site out there: http://anonym.to/?http://www.deals2buy.com, http://anonym.to/?http://www.fatwallet.com, http://anonym.to/?http://www.slickdeals.net etc

    Questions:

    1. Does Joomla lend itself better for such site?
    2. WP is great for ease of use , may be there are plugins out there that will allow me to do, not sure if the WP site can scale well when have thousands of deals?
    3. How does the website receive deals from merchants? I'm assuming one signs up as their affilaites wither through CJ etc or directly and then gets their datafeed. Data feed will have to be parsed and converted into display blocks? How do I do this? Any plugins/scripts to do that?

    4. Heard of Jeff Johnson's ATM Pro http://anonym.to/?http://www.affiliatetrafficmachine.com/ , is that something that can fit the bill?

    5. Should this kind of site be developed somewhat from scratch?

Please share you thoughts on how best this could be done.

there are already many sites based on the same niche, you gotta change the model a bit to cater to specific area.

I dunno about Joomla but there is a couple of deals type of plugins made for WP but they are more for the masses so it is not so unique and maybe a few thousands other are running the same theme as you.

The more popular sites are running based on customized portals and scripts and they have an advantage of having users submitted contents rather than manually adding which I presume you have to do it yourself or outsource. You might like to try datafeed solutions like goldencan or datafeedr etc...

Thanks for your response. WP is ok for not-so complex site but I think Joomla takes the crown in a non-blog looking site.

May be a plugin for Joomla (again I may be be pushing it here), it may not even exist...as WP seems to have abundant plugins but Joomla not so.

I would be interested in finding more about the approaches to creating deals site. I think it's certainly a great model to earn affiliate commissions on a consistent basis.

Most of these sites use a custom solution and invested a lot of money. And I think most of them keep the "how to" close to their chest... It's hard to find any info on this topic, I tried it as well and gave up for now.

yeah you are right. I'm having tough time finding out the details about the operation for these sites. They may very well have custom designed them but they must be using some sort of automated feeds to populate their initial DB and then may be using some custom admin interface to approve the deals that actually get on their site.

Any other input, please don't be shy, I'm sure there are lot of real players here..

    Thanks

I stumbled upon this thread in BHW Buy and Sell section about ukescuba's KickAss script: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/buy-sell-trade/166343-ukescubas-kick-ass-video-tutorial-script-4.html

Do you think that will solve what I'm trying to accomplish?

So you think it's certainly possible to achieve the level of functionality in one of those sites using KickAss? If that's the case, I would love to use it.

    Thanks for your feedback.

In my searches online, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of tools for Joomla. The only thing I found was coupon management system at http://anonym.to/?http://www.joomla6teen.com/Joomla-Extensions.html

    Wordpress has few more options.

I wold love to hear from others who have knowledge about this kind of website.
