For those having issues with step 11, I have done some testing... I hope it helps. Thanks again to 'Naresh11' for the initial instructions. If I can get some time I am looking to make a walkthrough of setting up a free account directly in AWS. Setting up the account is easy its the system, network, database, storage buckets, and others that can be tricky.

Anyway here is the wall o' text for working around step 11. I left all the original steps as is and added steps/notes below each. I hope it makes sense... (lack of coffee)

    1. Go to edx (link above)

    2. Click register

    3. Enter a 'Username', 'Email Address', and 'Password'

    a) Use a real email as you will need to validate your new account
    b) You can use email services like Gmail and Hotmail

    4. Click create an account.

    5. Go to your email.

    6. Go to the link in your email to verify/activate your account.

    a) For me, it took about 5 minutes to receive the email

    7. Go to 'cs50.io'

    a) Make sure 'edX' is shown from the dropdown list (it should default to this)
    b) Click 'Go'

    8. You should now see a page that asks 'Authorize cs50?'

    a) Click on the 'Allow' button
    b) If you do not get this page, then just move on to step 9

    9. You will now be back on the 'edx.io' login page

    a) Enter the 'Email' and 'Password' that was used for step 3
    b) Click on the 'Sign in'
    c) At this point, you should see a 'C9' page saying Creating Workspace

    10. Go to 'c9.io/feesgfas'

    11. Sign in with your USERNAME and Password

    a) Key here is to use the Username and NOT Email Address that was used for step 3 (unless you used email for the user)

Here is where things get a little wacky thus labeled this as '11_B'

11_B. If at this sign in and you get an error attempting to sign in, follow these steps:

    a) Open a new 'TAB' or 'Window' in your web browser (Do not close or navigate away from C9 page)
    b) Go to the 'edx.org' page from step #1
    c) Login with EMAIL and Password (If prompted)
    d) Look in the Top right side of the screen and if logged in you will see your 'USERNAME'
    e) Use the dropdown and select 'Account'
    f) Look down this page is select 'Reset Password'
    g) Check for a Reset email from edX (This is the email in step #3)
    h) Click on the 'Change my Password' button (or link)
    i) A new Reset Password page will open - enter email (it CAN be the same as before)
    j) A Password Reset Complete opens with a link to 'Sign-in to your account' so click it and sign in
    k) Now go back to the Tab/Window from Step 10
    l) Re-enter your USERNAME and Password
    m) You should now be logged in to your workspace and continue at OP's original step 12

I have tested with Chrome only, so don't know if others will have issues with these steps. I did test these steps multiple times and have had no issues getting to the workspace.

What is the root cause and why some people have problems and others do not??? A couple of thoughts as I worked through these steps

    - There is apparently an issue with the dual login that cs50 should have configured.
    - Possible some entered an actual email (like Im2Cool) and some entered their email for username (Step #3)

Anyway I hope this works for those who still want to check this out and thanks to OP for posting this... I love these types of things!

    Later!

The OP provided the step to get everything set up. The only extra step I found was Apache was not running so I just manually started and then I could access the VPS. Just keep in mind that with Step #17 each of those commands are run separately.

    git clone https://github.com/billyprice1/cloud9-vnc.git <Enter>
    cd cloud9-vnc <Enter>
    sudo apt-get update <Enter>
    sudo ./install.sh <Enter>
    ./run.sh <Enter>
    sudo apt-get install firefox <Enter>

    Then for Apache:
    ~/workspace/ $ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 status
    * apache2 is not running
    ~/workspace/ $ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start
    * Starting web server apache2

    ~/workspace/ $ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 status
    * apache2 is running

Open a Browser on your computer and go to:
    https://ide50-jaxxtek2.legacy.cs50.io:8080/
*** Change [USERNAME] with your username that was set up back on step#3

At this point, you have a working Linux VPS. I won't be able to assist any further, as there are different options/direction you can go with the VPS server. I just do not have the time now or I'll need to send an invoice for consulting.

    I have a few comments:

1 - On June 30th, 2019 the ability to create any new workspaces will be disabled. Users will have until December 31st, 2019 when all access will be discontinued.
2 - If your Linux usage is limited you may run into some difficult configuration setup.
3 - If you are limited in Linux, look into AWS 'Free Tier' as there are deployments with Windows which might make some more comfortable
4 - Check the Hosting section under Marketplace, here on BHW, to see about an inexpensive VPS and what level of support they are able to provide.

Hope this helps (a little at least)

    Jaxx
