So I'm on tumblr and I see this CPA offer for Beats headphones popping up EVERYWHERE. The guy has obviously hacked accounts or is using a script of some kind that causes tumblr blogs to post his links. I talked to a few of the people whom it's happening to and they have no idea how it got posted through their account. I'm guessing I should go ahead and do some investigating, find out who it is and report them to their network? What would you do?

It might be that your computer got adware and it pops out on your computer.

If he is not hacking peoples account you shouldn't report him. Not cool to just be outing peoples methods if they aren't harming people. On the other hand it you should look into it and make sure no harm is going on.

    It's like this:

Tumblr is a very large site, like facebook & twitter, boasting over 64 million blogs as of July. That means tons of people (typically young) who visit your site have a high chance of having a Tumblr account and being logged in.

With that in mind, you could potentially place a 1px x 1px iframe on your site that opens and posts to tumblr, provided the visitor to your site has a tumblr account and is already logged in.

It's sorta the same as the auto-like or auto-tweet or auto-follow scripts that have been going on the past few years, accept now it's an auto-post.

    Hope this helps.

    Oh and p.s, don't be a snitch.

I am pretty sure I saw the same ad! These kinds of tactics are only making it more difficult for us to really earn. If it's really bad, I would probably report too.

no...why would you report him? Find the source, rip the script and use it. You clicked on something that done it for your account.

I wonder if you could add the script onto your tumblr blog yourself which gets lots of other tumblrererers visting it

It's not a script. I had it posted on a tumblr I haven't used in almost two years, as well as a tumblr my wife made over a year ago and never made a single post on. It is also happening to many inactive blogs that I follow. There is a tumblr feature that allows you to post by emailing the content to a randomly generated email address that is specific to your blog. Somehow the publisher has procured either a list of these emails or a generator of some kind.

You guys can say whatever you want about "not snitching" and "hate the player not the game" but it's a completely different story when it's something that effects you directly. If someone started spamming your facebook/twitter/blog with posts and make it almost completely unusable you'd be pissed too. I've had to delete about a hundred of these fucking things. Especially when it's a blog that let's my family who lives elsewhere keep up with my day to day life since I don't get to talk to them often.

There's also the feature that allows other people to submit a post on your blog. Most people don't disable it.

What I'm hearing here is ridiculous. This is taking "not snitching" to the next level.

If it was someone scraping emails, faking referrals, screwing adsense, bh youtube etc... you get the point, I would never report that, but some asshole coming to my blog and spamming it 90 times? I'd be pissed and send his ass outta here whether its reporting or whatever.

Unfortunately tightening your own security is not always enough. If there's a problem in the system you'll need to cut your loses, and not get stressed about.

I'm VERY security conscious, but it doesn't stop my 10 year old hotmail account getting hacked into every few months. It's because the service freaking sucks, nothing you can do.

How is tightening my security going to keep someone from getting through tumblrs security parameters? It didn't only happen to the old blogs, it happened to the current one's as well. I mentioned it happening to the inactive blogs to show that it obviously wasn't due to me clicking on some sort of script. Reading comprehension, you should work on it.
