I have a couple questions, as I'm just getting really into SEO this past week, and doing a lot of keyword research tonight.

First being, how relevant is competition, really? I've heard people say "oh if it has less than 10000 competition go for it!!" etc, but is that not really, really general? As in, couldn't a keyword with 50000 competition have no one truly targetting it, and couldn't a keyword with 2 competition have a PR6 DA 7 keyword in title and domain etc etc, gunning for the top spot? Just wondering if there is any specific relevance to people saying things like that so frequently.

And secondly, is there a wordpress plugin to automatically tag your posts with predefined tags? As in, if you had a autoblog, it would automatically make every post have the keywords you determine, etc. I've searched pretty hard for this and found nothing really even near it.

There was something else, but I forget it now, so I'll post back later if I remember, but regardless, the answer to these two questions would be much appreciated guys, thanks!

When looking at the competition the number of competing pages really has no bearing on whether or not you should enter an niche. To make any money you need to get on the first page so those sites on the first page are the only ones that matter, those other 100k sites do not matter at all.

Look at the sites at #10, #5, #3, and #1. Can you beat any of those sites? If you can then it is probably a good keyword to go after. If you look at the #10 spot and it looks like more than you can handle then move on to your next choice. If you think you can handle #10 take a look at #5 etc and see where you think you can end up. Will it be high enough to make any money compared to the number of searches? If so go for it.

As far as your second question I can not really help with that one. I know a couple of the autoblog plugins add tags but I have found them to be not all that accurate.

    Hey Volund,
that is quite an interesting view you have laid out there. I haven't looked at it that way yet.

Now, I do have a question about that: what if the number 1 and 3 results for your keyword are articles posted on ezine, goarticles and associatedcontent? I have had people tell me that if that's the case, the number 1 spot is very easy to get.
But, I notice that even my first competitor (info site like me) is not getting there.
So, is this true? Is it more easy to get to #1 when your main competition are articles on article websites?
And, if so, what is the best way to fight them?
