So google can generate AI content for the users and we are the ones to be penalized? That's one way of displaying the power of monopoly.

Google adopted featured snippets a long time back, and we are still making money with SEO.

I think generative AI will further shrink the market. But SEO is still gonna have a huge ROI compared to any other channel

For real! All those seo managers on LinkedIn who try to act as if nothing had happened, to give each other a hand with phrases like "new challenges await us", and "SEO is the most exciting thing in the world" do not understand that functions like "do a follow-up question to the AI" will kill CTR on SERP links. Furthermore, everything related to information will be swallowed by the AI as it will be able to respond and create content both written and oral, or in video form. Sites that make money from ads will no longer make money. Things like faceless youtube channels will be useless. Google's business model will be different. At the same time, the few online businesses that still have value will be local shops, a few saas, ecommerces that have unique products, and content creators who put their face into it. Technical information in general will be disclosed for a fee on sites such as substacks and newsletters. Organic search will be depleted of the latter if AI is unable to create technically qualitative information, which I believe it will be able to do. we'll see.

Dude, don't be sad. Please read this sentence from the link you provided:
  • Google is updating its helpful content system to better surface content from personal or expert viewpoints.
All of the content that Google provides for the people is written by us. Google is only a search engine, also called a tool. They provide the search result that people want.
But it's a competition for us that we should publish the great quality content on our website.

I think SEO is becoming obsolete when people have to scroll through 2000 word SEO optimized articles when they search something on Google. Most people don't have time for that, but you know who can read it better and faster? It's AI. These SEO people are actually helping AI to learn all the time.

Remember when people would just scrape the first 10 results in the SERPs, markov them all onto one page and pull in traffic that way? Some still do, especially in the non-English versions of Google. I can see these AI generated roundups/snippets just being another source of content for this technique.

I think this is going to be intent-based really because I highly doubt that they are diversifying the search results for e-commerce and services if my intent is to purchase something.

But for those who run content-based sites, this will be a major issue.

Not just on LinkedIn bro, it's the same on YouTube. I follow some of the biggest SEO creators just to stay up to date with things and it's like they are putting on a clown mask every time they post something. Not going to name anyone, but it's at a point where they are literally selling shovels for gold that doesn't exist anymore.

I summarize for lazy people like me.

Google announced several new features and improvements for its Search engine at its annual I/O developer conference. Some of the highlights include:

  • A generative AI feature, MUM (Multitask Unified Model), can understand complex queries and generate helpful answers across languages, modalities, and tasks. For example, MUM can answer a question like “I’ve hiked Mt. Adams and now want to hike Mt. Fuji next fall, what should I do differently to prepare?” by drawing information from various sources and formats, such as text, images, videos, etc.
  • A Perspectives tool that can show different viewpoints on a topic from high-quality sources. For example, Perspectives can show different opinions on whether coffee is good or bad for health, along with the sources and summaries of their arguments.
  • A new About This Result panel can provide more context and transparency about the sources of information in Search results. For example, About This Result can show a website's description, date of first indexing, and related articles.
  • A new feature that can show related subtopics for broad queries, such as “home exercise equipment.” For example, Search can show subtopics like budget equipment, premium picks, or small space ideas, along with relevant results for each subtopic.
  • A new feature that can use computer vision and augmented reality to help users learn new skills or complete tasks. For example, Search can show interactive 3D models and videos that can guide users on how to fix a bike chain or make pasta from scratch.

It's actually the height of it.

Another thing is Google's AI generated content would be full of inconsistencies and incorrect information unlike the ones done by content creators who would have to go through the content before publishing.
