I've added a popup window to one of my blogs and the bounce rate has dropped from an average of 57% to 5% (yes 5).

Should I not get too attached to this blog?

If they click on the pop and that pop link opens a new window and takes them to another site, it will lower the bounce rate because they "stay" on your site longer. They're not actually staying, but rather they just forget to close the window with the pop. I've had that low of a bounce rate with a pop before. :) It's pretty cool to see a number like that, huh? I still have the site up and have yet to hear from
Google.... They WANT lower bounce rates- it's all good, don't worry. They only way you would get penalized/deindexed is if someone gets a bug up their ass and decides to report you. Google doesn't like excessive pops or pops that cover a whole page. I got penalized for that on another site of mine. You will get a message if that's an issue though. :)

    Thanks!
Actually its just one popup that simply thanks them for visiting. I don't think its to obtrusive at all....but you are right it is cool to see a bounce rate in the single digits. :)

Well an update...my bounce rate has now dropped to an all time low of 4.08%. I really do hope you are right that this won't lead to problems down the road. #crossingfingers

Low bounce rate is good, not bad.

Where can you check the bounced rate of your website ... if its not too stupid to ask.

I've read that having a high bounce rate can negatively influence your rankings, so presumably having a low bounce rate would have a positive impact. Keep monitoring it and let us know ;)

    An update:

I've seen my keywords ranking improve (many are now on page 1) and my traffic improve by roughly 30% in the past 4 days. However that is not the most surprising stat....its the bounce rate during that time:

    10/11 - 6%
    10/12 - 1%
    10/13 - 1%
    10/14 - 0%

From the looks of this (albeit brief) study...G may really like bounce rates as I have not built a single link or added any new content in over 2 weeks.
