Could a forwarded domain kill my rank?

I have a ecommerce site that runs on OpenCart and has done pretty well for the past 5 years. I have other sites for resellers of this product or similar products also on an OpenCart site will all the same setup & plugins. Recently my site took a dive and does not rank anymore for the product name or product # like it normally does. Haven't changed anything on the site but recently the site owner had me register a domain name that he is going to use later and for now just had me point it to his current e-commerce site.

Wouldnt think that one domain could cause the prob but I have other similar sites all built pretty much the same and only the one site was affected. Any tips on how to troubleshoot something like that? I suppose it could just be a random temporary glitch that will sort itself?
