    Hi Guys,

I'm new here and I won't bore you too much with my story as I've already posted it over in the Introductions section.

I've always wanted to start my own online business and have found this forum so helpful that it's encouraged my to take action right away. I've been practicing goal setting in other areas of my life lately and it has worked well for me, so for doing this I have a very ambitious yet clear plan:

I need (not want, need!) to make at least £5000 ($7800 USD) within 6 months. By 1st March 2016 to be precise. (It's ok, my kneecaps aren't under threat or anything, I just think I am not going to do this thing unless I convince myself that it's life or death).

I read recently that sometimes it's best to set a target "range", so £5000 ($7800) is my minimum, but £10,000 ($15600) is my preferred target and is what I'll be basing my calculations on.

To do this I estimate that I will need to make a minimum of £150 ($230) per day, every day, 7 days a week. That figure is a little high, but it means if I don't make anything the first couple of months then I can probably still reach my goal in the remaining months.

I should add that as I am planning to make this a long term business, I am assuming that I'll only take home around 70% of my gross profit. So £150 per day * 30 days per month = £4500, * 4 months (allowing for 2 dud months at the start) = £18000. 70% of that is £12,600 leaving a small margin for error. Maths isn't my strong point so feel free to tell me if I've made a mistake.

The real challenge - I need to keep my full time job. I have some leave coming up, so after spending some time setting things up I ideally need to be able to spend around 2 hours per day on it thereafter, with maybe some more time at weekends spent on setting up new methods etc. Really not much I know.

My initial plan is to start with Meathead's review site CPA method and take it from there, although due to the lack of time I can commit each day maybe there are more automated methods that bring in less money but I can set more of them up?

Anyway, I've already made some progress. I have web hosting, and I've singled out a couple of niches, will start with just one though. So next step is to sign up at Clickbank and start writing reviews on my new fake blog. Will update soon!

Feel free to offer advice, point out my glaring school boy errors, laugh at me, etc. I really want to do this. Really and truly the £5-10k is a goal to get me motivated, if I don't hit it I will still consider it a success if I have made some money that I wouldn't have otherwise had and treat it as the start of a longer journey.

Thanks for reading guys and let me know if you think I'm totally insane. :D

Good luck! I am just in a position similar to you, were I want to have some extra income, but don't want to leave my job. Having like 1-2 hours/day, I want to look for things to do to in that spare time :) Reading you got me motivated, so I will follow your updates, and try to figure out a plan for me, the same that you have done for yourself :D

    Good luck mate!

Automation and scale is the key. Big effort at the start proving your concept. If you can make £5 a day, then you can make £50 a day.
Once you get stabilised, automate as much as you can. Then begin again with another concept until you hit another winner. Rinse and repeat.

A few years ago I made good daily bank from a cracking ebay method. Thought I was elected, and was struggling to choose between the new Audi or the new BMW. One swift change by Ebay and all of a sudden I was wiped out. The three months I spent continually checking my commissions and tickling myself should have been spent diversifying, investing and reinventing. Lesson Learnt.....and now passed on to you.

    Best of Luck

Thanks everyone for your encouragement, it really does help.

aitorTheRed - good luck, I'm making this up as I go along so hopefully the blind can lead the blind!

Rastis - great advice, I have been thinking about this a lot the last few days, specifically that it seems a very volatile business, what works one day may not the next. I need to have lots of fingers in lots of pies!

Just thought I'd update on this. I have a review page set up with 1 product review and affiliate links. I'm tired tonight so I've just made my furtive post to a forum with a link. That's it for today. To be honest I don't expect much as it all needs a bit more polish, but I'll be pleased just to see a single visitor!

It's all going very slowly but hopefully I can put some real effort in next week when I am not working. I'm quite pleased that I've actually done something.

Best of luck to you. Keep on building that presence!

Check the source of that traffic to make sure it just wasn't you scoping your own site. I was checking my recent project on 2 different boxes (Mac and PC) and have been fooled before myself.
