Hello BHW community!

I started to grow a channel and it is going well at the moment. My question is What is the safe way to add donation options in the youtube description? I saw that people are mostly using Patreon, but I was wondering if is it safe to add paypal.me link in the description to receive potential donations? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks

Both Patreon and PayPal are safe and widely used platforms for receiving donations on YouTube.

I've seen PAYPALME LINKS ON DESCRIPTIONS.

It seems like the content provider isn't being penalized.

How would I know?

I see ads with their videos as well.

So I don't think it gets in the way.

If I may add something, if you're going to be asking for donations, don't just put the request in the description section.

You should also MENTION IT IN THE BODY OF THE VIDEO ITSELF.

It can be a graphic call to action, or you can have whoever's doing your voiceover audio to ask verbally for donations.

Pinned comment is more effective method I guess. At least do A/B test for that.

Thanks guys, great ideas!

Paypal is also good way as most of the people have PayPal and thus they will be happy to pay with it. But first you should gain trust among users.

Adding a PayPal.me link to your YouTube description is technically allowed by YouTube, but I would recommend using a dedicated platform for receiving donations, such as Patreon or Ko-fi. These platforms are specifically designed for creators and offer a range of features, including recurring donations, membership tiers, and exclusive content.

I saw yesterday a live stream video from naazir ra, in this video there was 52 people watching and commenting it. Two of them made a donation one with &5, the other with $20. Is this a normal conversion rate for donations? Or do you have to be big on yt like naazir ra before people spend donation for you on a new channel?

What's your experience make some money with youtube donations?

You can add paypal link without any issue. But donations will not work best for all niches, it is converting good only in some niches and also target audience should be in USA.

If you have small fresh channel, adding links to your description could kill it right away. As for alternatives Ko-Fi and buymeacoffe are decent platform, the don't take any cut, and are well known.

Patreon is the best and safest and it's intended for that purpose. Paypal can be used but because patreon is specifically made for this , it's better.

If you want to build long-term and stable donor relationships, Patreon will be a safer and more professional choice
